Really quite a wonderful site and I commend the owners for preserving and investing in such a landmark. There’s plenty to do - from a sauna and small cinema space, a bowling alley and games room, two (!) museums and an audio guided building tour. The restaurant is excellent, and the bar is open until 10pm, with the option of sitting on the elevated terrace.Rooms are kept in a good condition with cheaper basic ones available directly from their website. Breakfast buffet was standard German fare, probably lacking for international visitors, but decent nonetheless. Staff were also very friendly, with around half of those I encountered able to communicate in English. For its size, the hotel wasn’t busy when I stayed, and I don’t really understand how they can keep it all going. I’m just pleased I had the opportunity to visit and would implore you to do the same - the region is ripe for hikes and cycles, and easily accessible on the train to Leipzig and Nuremberg.

This is a great hotel and a beautiful monument at the same time! The exterior and interior of the hotel are in the Bauhaus style which originated in the 1920s in the Weimar Republic. It's great fun to walk around in the hotel and to see how this Bauhaus style was used in every little detail of the building. The rooms are comfortable and also in Bauhaus style. The mattress on the bed was on th firm side, just how I like it. The pillows where big, not the typical pillows I am used to in Germany, which is another plus. The bathroom is beautifully tiled and clean in every corner. There is sufficient cabinet storage space for your clothes in the room if you decide to stay for longer period. The restaurant is beautifully laid out, square tables and chairs, all in Bauhaus style. The menu is somewhat limited, but what they offer they do very well. There is something for everyone on the menu list. I had a great Wiener schnitzel with a nice Kellerbier. Good quality food for a very affordable price. This hotel is a great choice if you want something different for once. The history of this building together with the comfortable rooms, good food and nice staff makes this hotel a great choice.

Had a great time here. You visit this Hotel, because You like the Bauhaus style or You want a rest with reading a book. Anyways - a good decision. Beside the Hotel - all open to view like a Historic Museeum - You can visit the Trainstation, was the last station at the DDR border to Bavaria. The station has a Museum to visit. Also look around for the train memorys. In Ludwigsstadt is a "Schiefermuseeum" about slate mining and further processing. Read my seperate post about.

I was fortunate to stay at this hotel on my recent trip to Germany. This property is situated in what used to be the DDR, it is a huge construction, build in the 20's in Bauhaus style and recently renovated, the renovation is not yet …

One of the weirdest experience ever.Nobody was there. I met no other guest. I was delivered a Code and I had to follow a map to a safety box where I could find my key.It is very interesting reading about the building and the architecture, also about Mr Arndt's life and the Bauhaus style.I struggled A LOT to find a place to eat (restaurants). Good hotel for hikers.Free parking. Short but good breakfast.

The short version: If you want a unique experience off the beaten path, come here and enjoy a unique house that has a lot to offer. It might be a bit hard to grasp what this place actually is at first glance. The "People's House" or Haus des Volkes was built in the early 1920s and is one of the few practical applications of the Bauhaus philosophy of that time.Today the HdV is a hotel and a restaurant which also offers a range of other activities. Of course you can explore the building itself (either with an audio guide or an actual tour), or you can come here to visit one of the exhibitions or events that are held throughout the year. You can play bowling, a round of pool or enjoy the sauna and the park if you want to relax. When we booked the room, we decided to get a three course dinner (can be booked with the room) and that meant after hour arrival, we spend a great night in the restaurant upstairs with great food, very friendly staff. And on top of that, we got all of this for a fairly reasonable price. We definitely want to come back and use the hotel as our base to explore the region as well which also seems to hold a few interesting secrets. If you are in the area and are into history, design or architecture, you should give this unique place a visit but also if you just look for a great hotel for your next vacation.
