Jugendherberge Hohe Fahrt am Edersee

Located on the western edge of Lake Edersee, the JH Hohefahrt offers peace and digital seclusion as well as numerous leisure activities that can keep children busy for longer periods of time. Examples include the giant fan-powered bouncy cushion in the outdoor area and the cozy family common room with a selection of board games.The family rooms are exemplary (although you shouldn't use hotel standards) and spacious.The main problem during our stay was the inadequate preparation of the kitchen staff for the food allergy, which was explained in detail in advance: the main meals in the evening were described as allergen-free on a posted menu. All other meals and dishes (cereals and spreads at breakfast, additional/alternative side dishes and desserts at dinner) were not marked with regard to their allergens either on a notice board or in a letter at the food counter, although this was exactly what was done for the vegetarian/vegan properties.Consultation with the kitchen staff did not help: a service worker did not understand the language/content of the request, the kitchen staff called in replied laconically: "Then just eat an apple." Consultation with reception in the evening and when checking out revealed that this was an unfortunate situation, but due to space constraints, allergens could not be declared directly at the food counter.Given the previous communication, I was hoping for a clearer situation or at least a direct solution to the problem - the allergy problem cannot be solved with reassuring answers - so overall my meal was unfortunately not worth the price.The location does not allow mobile communication (cell phone gap) and WiFi is only available within a 10m radius of the reception, which leads to a concentration of young people addicted to mobile games in the evenings, but hardly affected our stay.

For several years we have been going on holiday for a week in the youth hostel once a year with four generations. This year we landed here at Edersee. We really liked the cabins. The location is unique: remote, no traffic, 50 meters to the beach, dogs welcome, great for cycling and……and….and…..The kitchen offered a lot of vegan dishes and provided us with all the ingredients to grill bread on one evening. All in all, we didn't miss anything and we had a great time here. However, we also had great weather 😎which certainly contributed to that.

Rustic youth hostel in a fantastic location. Out of the hut in the morning, 50m to the lake and just jump in - great.Heat can be tolerated well because of shady trees and constant air movement. Canoe rental possible (Asel ice cream parlor within paddling distance).It's easy to cycle along the lake (even without an E). Tip for families: the great family outdoor pool in Vöhl.A lot here relies on trust, a piece of an ideal world.If there are no particularly loud youth groups, it can also be very quiet 😜As of 2024, D1 network is okay, D2 and E network is a matter of luck, WiFi only at reception.

Great youth hostel. Nicely located. The buffet, both in the evening and in the morning, was great for a youth hostel.The only disadvantage, in some ways also an advantage: There is no reception. No mobile network, no LTE, no 5G. Is just the way.Renting a canoe or SUP board was painless. So overall great.

The stay was very nice and the whole family had fun. Maybe we'll come back again.

We spent a very idyllic week here: quiet location, lovingly maintained grounds, everything clean, very friendly staff and delicious food! The houses are cozy and the swimming area with the jetty is a dream 🥰Thank you to the wonderful team!!Drive there 👍🏻

This youth hostel is highly recommended. Friendly staff, great rooms, great food and a location that is simply beautiful!

We had a really great family holiday at the JHB. The cabins are absolutely magical and very clean. The food was very varied and tasty. The staff was always super friendly. We always felt comfortable and would be happy to come back. Great value for money!

Everything was great, only WiFi was poor. The food was delicious and varied.

I'm conflicted about the location: the complex with a ponte on the lake is mega and very well maintained, the location as such is a little far away from everything (which can also have charm).The service is super friendly and you feel welcome. The food packages offered (e.g. our grill package deluxe) were very good (and more than sufficient).Overall, absolutely recommended. The only real weak point is the cell phone reception, but I can't help that 😅
