We were always passing through here. A great menu and the service is very friendly and accommodating. Ox cheeks, boiled beef, all made with love. We keep coming back. 👍

I was there for dinner. I had pork fillet with chanterelles and spaetzle. The food was very tasty and the service was very friendly. If I'm in the area again, I'll be happy to stop there again.

Charming restaurant decorated with lots of wood in the heart of Altdorf near Nuremberg. The menu offers a large selection of mainly Franconian specialties at very reasonable prices. The staff works quickly, is attentive and extremely friendly. Delivery from the kitchen is surprisingly quick. Highly recommended!

Great food at reasonable prices. We were passing through and were able to get a table in the garden restaurant. The Franconian Schäufele was freshly prepared, with a crispy rind and plenty of it. Highly recommended.

First of all: I can only rate the restaurant, I can't comment on the rooms, cleaning and breakfast etc.We have been there several times now and have always been very satisfied:Don't be fooled by the rather rustic atmosphere. The menu offers both typical Franconian dishes like those you know from grandma's kitchen as well as jazzed up, modern Franconian cuisine, such as the Franconian tapas platter or the sourdough flatbread with goat cheese and other seasonal ingredients. No matter what you choose, everything has tasted very good so far!The dishes are also appetizingly prepared and - not unimportantly - the portions are absolutely sufficient.There is something for everyone in terms of price.It's nice that there are always innards in the nail smithy, which is rare.Our waitress in charge was very friendly, flexible, attentive and generally professional.Since we had a place by the fireplace and therefore sat very centrally, we were able to notice that the tone among the employees was very pleasant: friendly, no shouting and there were jokes sometimes.We felt completely comfortable again and will visit the Alte Nagelschmiede more often in the future.The only downer: On the penultimate visit there was a greeting from the kitchen in advance, which was currently not available. The other guests didn't get anything either, so we weren't just forgotten. That's a real shame, because it made the Alte Nagelschmiede a little more special and the crackling fat was really tasty!

Was on training for 4 nights in the hotel. A traditionally run hotel with regional food. Had a small single room that had everything in it. For me the bed could have been bigger as I am relatively tall myself.The breakfast is very good and you can tell that you are in Franconia with the huge selection of sausages.Very good service from the staff and also from the boss. Come again.

I stayed at the hotel as a solo traveler with my dogs. I will never vacation there again. On the one hand, with two exceptions, the service staff are very friendly, I don't even want to say unfriendly, but I don't think it's asking too much to say "good morning" or "have a nice day". Unfortunately it quickly turned out that I booked at a bad time. There was construction noise from 7 a.m. until midday, in the hotel itself and in front of it too, every weekday. I would have liked to have been informed in advance. Parking spaces were available but were often blocked by construction vehicles and machinery. The staff themselves were not able to clean the room in a single day. Only towels were changed every day, which I find to be a real waste these days. It was known that I travel with 2 dogs. This wasn't a problem, but it later became so when the Bulgarian cleaner commented that there was dog hair in the bed. Furthermore, she would probably be afraid and would therefore not clean the room. I only left my dogs in the room for breakfast; the rest of the time we weren't in the hotel or only to sleep (dogs had their dog beds with them). The "boss" didn't respond to the suggestion to make a sign for the door or a piece of paper so that I could tell when we were there or when we were leaving. In general it was not a dog friendly place. 2nd floor back room, room with carpet, very old-fashioned and not really clean from the start (dirty windows, dusty shelves, floor with dead flies). However, it was an arrogant cheek that my dogs were loudly described as ugly animals by a kitchen helper.I think this hotel is absolutely not recommended! It also has numerous security flaws. No fire extinguishers, no smoke detectors, no escape routes...I don't want to comment on the kitchen because I didn't use it. Breakfast was okay, but definitely doesn't justify €15 if you only come for breakfast. 1 star for the location. You can save the rest.
