Our trip from the north to the Black Forest was worth it! We really enjoyed this vacation! The Mattenhof is a wonderful place to stay. The most beautiful thing was the view from the window directly into the countryside. The family is very warm, accommodating and hospitable. We were very warmly welcomed. The apartment was really well equipped! There is a farm shop with a vending machine that provides food 24 hours a day! Bread is baked fresh on site in the stone oven! The children enjoyed the animals and the fun outdoor area. They were also happy to help, for example by collecting the eggs. There is a lot to do in the area! We'd love to come back!

We have often vacationed on the farm. That was by far the worst. We cannot understand where the good reviews come from. The rooms are totally outdated and a lot of things are broken and non-functional. There were missing panels in the kitchen. The fridge didn't work, the showerhead holder was broken, hardly any water drained from the sink,... only a small part. A bathroom completely non-functional and locked. Not to mention the endless cobwebs, dead flies, etc. in the corners. (Of course, this kind of thing is part of the farm, but when you pay for a room like a hotel room, you definitely have different expectations!) We vacuumed everything for almost 2 hours, and after we left the apartment was significantly cleaner than when we started. The children's play equipment is definitely no longer approved by the TÜV, everything is broken. The slide directly on the electric fence of the cow pasture and the children's vehicles are missing the wheels. Nobody bothers here anymore. No helping out for the children (just collecting eggs!), you are not allowed to enter the stable, no feeding, nothing. We know it completely differently from other farms. For us it was our annual vacation. Sad..You don't feel welcome! No invoice will be created, and if you leave early, no tourist tax will be refunded (we had to beg to get the guest card, otherwise it is automatically available everywhere else upon arrival!)Invest in your farm, especially in the accommodation, or skip renting.Far too expensive for the offer and the performance. Doesn't fit at all. We will no longer vacation there and cannot recommend this farm.

I recently had the pleasure of spending a 5 day holiday at the Mattenhof in Zell am Harmersbach and it was simply fantastic! The accommodation in the “Fuchsbau” was not only clean, but also extremely comfortable and inviting. What really sets the Mattenhof apart, however, is the warm and familiar atmosphere. Everyone was extremely friendly and always tried to make us feel at home. The farm shop was a treasure trove of fresh produce and the 24-hour fresh produce machine proved extremely handy, especially when we returned late. The surrounding area offered great hiking opportunities and one of the highlights of our trip was undoubtedly the fresh bread from the wood-fired oven on Tuesdays and Fridays.Although we traveled without children, it was great to see that the Mattenhof offers numerous options for families, including a trampoline or a playground and even, upon arrangement, the opportunity to go horseback riding. The fact that Zell was within walking distance and the forest was only a 5-minute walk away made our stay even more pleasant. In summary, I can only warmly recommend the Mattenhof in Zell am Harmersbach. It was an unforgettable experience and I hope to be there again soon.

I don't know what you would expect from a holiday on the farm, but I really enjoyed it. If you can stick to a few simple rules you will have a lot of fun here (after all, there is work going on here and not too little). It was important to us that the rooms were clean and spacious. Both expectations were fully met. The WiFi was also okay, better than in many holiday parks. A highlight for us parents was the farm shop. You can buy produce from the farm or the region here around the clock. Ms. Schmider's homemade bread was particularly good. Another highlight was the large balcony of our holiday apartment. Decorated in the best Black Forest ambience, we sat there every evening and watched the cows and chickens grazing or let our gaze wander over the local hilly landscapes and forests. For the children, riding ponies and walking goats was a great highlight. It takes place even in wind and rain. Daughter Ann-Kathrin always looked after everyone warmly and also asked about the guests' wellbeing. In short, both parents and children were completely happy and would love to do so again.Regarding the location, it should be said that the Gasthof Ochsen is a 2-minute walk away if you want to eat out in the evening, such as a bakery and a doner kebab snack bar a little further. Freiburg and Strasbourg can be reached with a drive of around 1 hour.
