Been there as a family for a few years and have always loved it! Were in the new building and also in the west tower and once at the top! Have 2 years! Waited for the rooms back in the holiday season and yes…. Absolutely exhausting going up and down, but it was totally worth it! Rooms all functionally furnished, service and food were always great, everyone has wonderful memories! Of course there isn't much going on in the West, but that's what made it happen for us! You could cycle into the village! Unfortunately there will no longer be a direct bathing beach... but Wangerooge will always remain our favorite youth hostel!

Very nice, quiet youth hostel on the west of the island. Room with private bathroom, in the new building with a balcony, but in the tower with a view. Our room for 4 people was equipped with the usual bunk beds, table, cupboard and chairs. Towels can be rented for a small fee. The DJH is very quiet in the west, about 20 minutes from the harbor and an hour (walking distance) from the village. The DJH has many games, books, a games room for small children, volleyball, table tennis, a playground and a café. There isn't much else around, so it's worth cycling into town and to the beach. The bikes at the DJH are often fully booked and the route takes a long walk, so it's best to reserve the bikes when booking (Wolfgang bike rental).If you are traveling with children, it is best to have your luggage delivered. The route from the harbor (about 20 minutes) will otherwise be long (especially if the weather is not perfect). You can leave sand toys at home. This is available at the DJH and for the beach at the spa administration.No more tips. We have been there 3 times now (with 3 children each in the summer) and will be back. That probably says it all. Thank you for the lovely stay!

Great youth hostel. Perfect for families. There is plenty of space to play, bike rentals, a rabbit and chicken coop and a pool table. Drinks are available at reception until 10 p.m., so you can end the evening nicely. Gladly again.

Unfortunately there is a construction site right in front of us. Booked with a youth hostel for the first time. The last time for me. Bad information message. And running to the 4th floor with a small child isn't exactly great either...

We stayed in the youth hostel for 1 week as a family and really enjoyed our stay! The staff is great, very helpful, friendly and on the ball.We were accommodated in the annex, which is also where all the common areas are. There is a playroom for smaller children, which was very popular with our kids (1-5 years). There is also a large bistro with lots of seating inside and outside, a pool table, TV and reading room, you can borrow lots of games or balls, sand toys, etc. It is really very well thought out and great for young and old.There is a large enclosure outside with small animals, and our kids enjoyed it for hours. There is also a courtyard between the tower and the annex where you can play, shoot and roll. And next to the bistro terrace there is a large playground with swings, climbing frames and balancing equipment, where our kids were happily occupied for hours every day.There is a bike rental service directly on site; the bikes are getting old, but they do their job. There are tons of trailers, child seats, baskets, etc. to borrow. It's best to reserve in advance!The food was delicious and varied. Every morning there are fresh different rolls, fresh fruit, juices, etc. You pack a lunch in the morning (bring Tupperware with you!) since you're usually out and about during the day anyway. Great! In the evening you can put together your meal very flexibly and there is also a delicious salad bar.The youth hostel is located away from the hustle and bustle of tourists on the western end of the island. It is 3km into the city and is best covered by bike. At the west end there are only several hostels and school camps, but no shops or anything similar.We had a great time and will be back next year!

We were stranded here after a short bike ride with the children and did NOT stay overnight here. There is also a small bistro downstairs in the youth hostel for non-hostel residents. Super delicious, fresh waffles, delicious homemade red fruit jelly and delicious (vegan) vanilla sauce. There is also bockwurst with rolls and rice pudding, cold and hot drinks at fair prices and a playground that can be seen from the wind-protected seats. Also perfect with small children. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. On request, you can also get a key for the west tower at reception and climb it on your own (perhaps not necessarily with smaller children due to the large “gaps” in the railing in the closed area ;)).

In itself a nice, cozy youth hostel - once you get used to strutting up endless stairs to your room, haha. The room has a great view and its own bathroom and the seminar room is spacious and has all the equipment you need.However, the few times I spoke to staff behind the counter, I didn't have such a pleasant experience. Either there was someone who wasn't necessarily the brightest candle in the cake and constantly provided misinformation, or someone who was simply rude and cheeky to me (had asked where the bike rental was because we as a group had never been there or on the island in general were). Speaking of which: the bike rental shop next door never had bikes available, so we were either tied to a 45 minute trip to town or staying there.But that aside, we all slept wonderfully and the food, especially in the evening!!, was an absolute hit. Delicious! The fact that there was no lunch but packed lunches was absolutely no obstacle for us - it was definitely enough.The outdoor area is also beautiful, and the animals in particular were a highlight :)
