Very comfortable hotel in a quiet location. Well located to reach climbing areas in both the Oekertal and Eastern Harz.Very good breakfast, lots of vegan options such as plant-based milk, soy yogurt, lean and homemade vegan spreads. There is also the option to take rolls, apples, etc. with you for the day for a small fee.The only drawback is that you have to go out for dinner, as it's only a hotel garni.

We arrived with our two dogs over New Year's Eve because we were looking for some peace and quiet for our four-legged friends. It is highly recommended because it is a quiet location. The rooms are simply furnished but comfortable. The service is very good, the room is Cleaned every day, the breakfast buffet changes daily. It is recommended, thank you for the beautiful days

The perfect hotel in small Altenau. We thought we wouldn't be able to arrive on time before 6 p.m., which is why I called again in advance. The hotel manager, a very friendly and warm woman, offered to leave our key at a certain location at 6 p.m. that was easily accessible to us. But we managed to get there just before 6. When we arrived we were warmly welcomed by the warm hotel manager and her cat. The hotel is a small, fine, family-run hotel with a few rooms. The house is now getting old, but everything is still super clean, beautifully furnished, lovingly decorated and perfect for feeling good. It fits perfectly into the surroundings. In the hallway on the room level there is a refrigerator and a counter where you can grab drinks and snacks for a small fee. We had a spacious room with a fairly large balcony. The heating worked perfectly, which is of course not unimportant in November. The house is a little higher up, you have a really nice view. Directly next to the hotel with parking spaces in the courtyard, the Kurparkweg leads along and the “Oker” river burbles past. The breakfast buffet was lovingly prepared by the hotel manager and we didn't miss anything. There was even a (insulated) pot of coffee on our table when we came into the breakfast room. The lady seemed to know how to make me happy :)! The good woman gave us great tips for activities. What I found particularly great was that immediately after I booked I received an email from them telling me where to eat in Altenau and that it makes sense to reserve a table in advance. I also chose the first recommendation on their list and we didn't regret it. Good thing I had a reservation, all tables were occupied. From the Harzhotel Zur Schmiede you can quickly walk to “the center” of Altenau. If you go to Altenau again, then definitely go back to the Harzhotel Zur Schmiede. Price-performance is absolutely right there!!! Clear recommendation!

I can't write it any better than the review before me. The price-performance ratio is right. Clean rooms, delicious breakfast. An attentive hotel manager.... 🙂. You definitely have to visit the “Wonders in Wood” with the nice Mr. Meier.

After a first visit in 2019, I was there again.The hotel is centrally yet quietly located.There is parking space in front of the house.The rooms are simple, but appropriate and nicely furnished.They are very clean!You can enjoy the wonderful view from the balcony of the rooms.If you are looking for company, you can find it in the Schmiede Stube or on the covered terrace of the house.Everything is very lovingly furnished.The breakfast is delicious and rich.The boss and the employees are very friendly and attentive.You can take trips to Glockenberg or the forest swimming pool on foot.I felt very comfortable there and would love to come back!

I was there with my girlfriend for a weekend. Locally very nice location Rooms were actually okay except that I had to clean the bathroom myself because the shower wasn't clean and there was a lot of hair in it from people in front of it.Furthermore, the breakfast is not that great as there was hardly any choice.On the last day I chose muesli with yoghurt. Unfortunately it was very sour... and when it came to the fruit salad you immediately noticed that it had been bought cheaply and tasted the same.It's definitely enough to sleep.

Four of us including our dog stayed there for an overnight stay in February.The room was preheated and everything seemed very clean.The hygiene regulations are meticulously adhered to in the hotel.The breakfast is excellent, very varied and made with a lot of love, really great!Would love to come back.

It was clean, breakfast was good, everything was there. A few mistakes here and there, the mattresses for the double bed were too narrow and slipped apart. It's a little noisy.

The hotel is located on a hill in beautiful Altenau. The reception was very friendly and since not all rooms were occupied, a larger room with a balcony was prepared for us free of charge. You have a nice view and can also hear the small stream.The Corona requirements were implemented very well and the room was clean.The breakfast was good and we were immediately offered alternatives as we cannot eat some foods.The owner is friendly and warm and the accommodation is definitely recommended.

For a short stay you can visit the hotel. The price-performance ratio doesn't fit. The rooms are very dark in terms of light and the floor is cold. Slippers would have been nice. The windows in the room and also in the bathroom were damp and there were a lot of spiders. The breakfast was rich and tasty and very well organized under the Corona conditions.
