If you are looking for peace and quiet, great nature and organic food, this is the right place for you. This is not about the usual hype and consumerism. The people are honestly friendly, the selection of food is small but fine and completely sufficient (if you expect more, you should perhaps reconsider your other holiday habits and their consequences ;-))We had the Amsel Waldhaus. There was plenty of space, comfortable beds and a newly renovated bathroom. Conclusion: Everything was harmonious and we would like to come back when we are in the Lüneburg Heath.

Extremely quiet and remote hotel, you will definitely find the peace and quiet you need here. We were there when the heather was in bloom, it was really beautiful.

We were very disappointed with the hotel, especially with the dinner offered, which was offered as a "buffet". The portion of soup that was brought to us as a starter at the bare wooden table was so small that it was hardly worth the trip out of the kitchen. To describe two simple salad bowls and a main course served in metal pans as a “buffet” is a huge exaggeration – not to mention the in no way served scoop of simple quality ice cream in counted bowls as dessert. This offer is disproportionate to the price charged and does not even meet the minimum requirements of today's youth hostels. A drinks fridge, sorted completely haphazardly and carelessly, in a rather unusual location, as well as the clearing and positioning of the dishes on the serving trolley complete the extremely low level. The fact that guests are expected to arrive for dinner promptly at 6 p.m. is incomprehensible and does not meet the demands placed on a hotel today. The dining room is, in keeping with the style of the “buffet area”, completely unadorned, unappealing, uninviting, as is the completely unadorned terrace. The same goes for the room, which is at least clean, but purely functional and styleless. We couldn't reach the reception by phone when we tried to call repeatedly throughout the day to find out about the timing of dinner. The fact that we were then confronted in the dining room with the obvious accusation that we had been expected earlier seems outrageous in this context. We find the fact that there was no reception service possible in the morning very irritating and not hospitable. After the dinner experience, we didn't want to experience further disappointment and decided to leave early without breakfast. For us, the supposedly positive guest reviews (booking an 8.1!) are simply incomprehensible - neither the hotel's facilities nor the service meet the average requirements of a modern hotel.

The total switch-off begins as soon as you enter the hotel. The smell of food tells you that the dinner buffet will take place - if you arrive on time. …

We arrived a little earlier and followed the instructions at reception to please ring the bell. We were quickly reprimanded by the owner that we had disturbed him in an urgent conversation and that check-in was only possible from 3 p.m., even though the check-in time was stated as 2 p.m. on both Booking.com and in an email. A warm welcome is different. The rooms are functionally furnished. The grounds are spacious and very beautiful. The hotel is, as described, very remote and not really accessible without a car. But it is really very quiet and there is no tourist tax.In addition to sausage and cheese, there were also many vegetarian spreads to choose from at breakfast, probably also organic. The rolls seem to be homemade, or at least freshly baked. However, there are no glasses or toothbrush cups in the rooms, but there are large cobwebs (which must have been hanging for a very long time, given the amount of dust and leaves that have collected in them) on the terrace. The patio table had not been cleaned and was sticking. WiFi in Haus Birke only worked sporadically.Breakfast was served very slowly. At 9:10 a.m. the plate for sausage and tomatoes was almost empty (breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30). The trolley for returning the dishes was already overflowing and was not taught because the kitchen worker had to drink a coffee first.Participation in the evening buffet must be registered one day in advance, which is not apparent, so dinner on the day of arrival was impossible. In addition, there is no television in the Birke rooms, and there is not even a wardrobe in room 3, just an open shelf with a clothes rail for laundry. At the prices that people are asking for because they are “organic”, the service is really poor.
