I was in the restaurant as a (single) guest (with a dog) - without staying overnight! But it looks tempting 😉Surprisingly chic, upscale atmosphere in an old inn, lovingly decorated, but very hidden with very limited parking. Better to park somewhere else!The service staff were very friendly, uncomplicated and attentive.The food was excellent: the greeting from the kitchen (pea puree with mint and a hint of bacon) was a hit. But the grilled pear with honey and nutty goat's cream cheese as a starter is also a pleasure. For the main course I had saddle of venison with pumpkin puree and a phenomenal sauce, which was NOT made of red wine, but is not a cream sauce either 👍WOW!At the end there was semifreddo with grapes in the shape of a cake slice and was also a delight.Each course was served with a different one of the many in-house beers: a wheat, an IPA (Indian pale ale) and the one with lactic acid - the name of which I can't remember at the moment. Each one goes well with the course and is really tasty. By the way, 0.1 is completely sufficient.Did I mention the “Orange Sky” aperitif? Mega!With such good service and such a good kitchen team as here at the Golden Lion in Kallmünz, I am happy to pay the high price for the quality on offer.Thank you for a successful evening.Next time (unfortunately it will take a very long time) I will try the distillates :)

After I unfortunately had to give a bad review 5 years ago, it is with great pleasure that I can correct myself today. After the change of management, you can once again enjoy a small, very fine selection of dishes in a wonderful ambience. We were served very warmly and courteously. The choice of food was imaginative and excellent. We are already looking forward to our next visit!

This hotel is located in a remote part of Bavaria. Very beautiful scenery. Friendly staff but we couldn’t reach them in the after noon and night. Can highly recommend for people who are on car vacation in Bavaria.

Not recommended. My wife and I went here for lunch on May 21, 2023. I ordered a light beer and received a dark beer. My roast pork was served with very little sauce. The sauce that was ordered was even charged for. The accompanying salad was not served at all. My wife's lunch was very little. She wasn't fed up.Since the inn is in the upper price range, you would expect better service.We won't be visiting the inn again.

We were there on Sunday lunch. The boss personally gave us a very warm welcome, accompanied us to the table and took our coats. As an appetizer we had a glass (0.1l) of home-brewed beer: the Kallmator (dark bock). Hammer! They offer at least 7 different types of home-brewed beer. The meals were excellent. One of the best roast pork we have eaten. The dough-coated mince (soft pink inside) also tasted incredibly good. The service was very attentive and warm. Next time we'll come in the evening and try the multi-course menu with beer accompaniment. Thank God there is an option to stay overnight. A great ambience that beautifully showcases the charm of years gone by. We'll definitely be back. I can warmly recommend the nostalgic lion as a place to eat without hesitation. 👍👍👍

Regional, seasonal cuisine at the highest level. We celebrated our wedding at the Golden Lion and it couldn't have been more beautiful.The food is prepared with a lot of love, the nuances and sophistication of the taste are unique. Vegetarians also get their money's worth here!The home-brewed beers round off the taste experience.The atmosphere is quaint and cozy.The hotel rooms are stylish and have their own charm.

The maître d'hôtel was absolutely fabulous. She was warm and welcoming. For dinner I had Red Deer. The meal was one of the best wild game meals I have ever had. A massive plus is that all the food is sourced locally or regionally in the case of the wine. I highly recommend Syrah wine.I am rated by Google as one of the top 10% of all restaurant "raters" this was easily one of the top ten meals I have had the pleasure to enjoy!Cheers!

We were there on 27 Aug 22. We wanted to sit outside because it was a really nice evening. Although it had rained some earlier, it cleared up and was still warm outside. We were not allowed to sit outside.Inside we were only able to sit at a big table with one other couple that was already there. Very nice folks and was a bonus.The goat cheese (as a starter) with bacon bits was barely warm. The other three servings at the table reported the same. The main dish, Filet of Pork, was also barely warm. Of the six main courses at the table, only one reported it as being served hot and tasted really good. My wife had the zucchini backed with cheese. This was the worst meal out of the six. 25 bucks for a small, under cooked zucchini (was not soft at all) and go figure, almost cold.In all fairness, the place had recently changed owners, so maybe they are just having some start-up problems. Waiters were all very nice, but unfortunately not adequately trained. They serve a specialty after dinner shot with the three course meal the neighbors had ordered, but the waitress couldn’t really tell us anything about it, like how many % Alc. etc…Albeit our disappointed feedback, they didn’t offer us any kind of compensation like a free dessert or anything.This was the last time we will visit this place for awhile. Maybe next year after they’re better up and running we’ll give them another chance.For now, IMHO the place is a wannabe but not able. For this price category, the expectation is much higher than currently being delivered.
