Individual, lovingly furnished rooms with comfortable beds, large bathroom and great rain shower, delicious breakfast and coffee/tea always available. There is a small mini bar on trust and at the weekend a great wine bar right next door with the possibility to taste wines from the region. From the balcony you have a wonderful view of Rheinstein Castle. Ideal train connection for excursions.

An exceptionally tastefully and lovingly renovated hotel that we have been looking for for a long time in and around Rüdesheim! Mrs. Trapp and the housekeeper Rosa gave us a very warm welcome! Our junior suite was modern and stylishly furnished - like the entire B&B Altes Rathaus - and the balcony facing the Rhine offered a great view of Rheinstein Castle. Beautiful garden, breakfast was served in the attached Eiglers wine shop, very lovingly prepared. Assmannshausen offers boat trips along the castles, e-bike rental, chair lift to the Germania monument, great hikes and a great Italian restaurant, La Romantica.

My wife and I wanted to take advantage of the few positive effects of the pandemic, which we hope will soon be overcome, and enjoy the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley for a weekend in September 2021 - without the influx of tourists from Asia and the USA.The search for suitable accommodation turned out to be more tedious than expected because many hostels were simply too “romantic” or “plush” for us.At the Bed & Breakfast Altes Rathaus in Assmannshausen, a district of Rüdesheim am Rhein, we immediately agreed - that should be it!The welcome from the owner, Ms. Trapp, was extremely accommodating. So she offered to pick us up at the train station. However, we managed the easy route in just a few minutes on foot, even without their friendly help. Once we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Ms. Trapp and the room was ready two hours earlier than planned - great service! The former town hall, built around 1910, is a tastefully modernized monument and is located on the right bank of the Rhine, between the federal highway and the railway line. That sounds bad at first, but the location is actually very idyllic. Behind the main road is the Rhine promenade with jetties and behind the railway line rises the Assmannshäuser Höllenberg, one of the best red wine sites in Germany. The standard room booked (and the only one available when booking) is not in the old town hall itself, but in an annex building facing the vineyard, which is attached to the impressive former power station, which is also a listed building. The room on the upper floor is furnished in New England style, has a television, a perfectly modernized bathroom and - like the whole house - is impeccably clean. There is a free bottle of water in the room and there are even earplugs available for noise-sensitive guests. Everything has really been thought of here. The newly built wine bar in front of the power station serves as the breakfast room. The architecturally very successful flat roof building made of steel, wood and glass offers a wonderful view over the Rhine to Rheinstein Castle. The breakfast with homemade jam, scrambled eggs etc. is of a good standard. At the weekend, the flat roof building becomes “EIGLERS Weinbar & Vinothek”. We can recommend a visit to the wine bar. Not only does the view of Rheinstein Castle become even more idyllic in the evening, but you can hardly imagine a more authentic place where you can enjoy the magnificent wines of top winemaker August Kesseler (whose winery is just around the corner) and other good winemakers from the region can enjoy fair prices. The fact that we were allowed to move into a vacant ground floor room in the old town hall (deluxe room) on the second day completely convinced us.We were thrilled by the beautiful Middle Rhine Valley, the impressive monuments, the hiking trails through the unique, centuries-old cultural landscape and, last but not least, the Rheingau wine. But it was the warm hospitality of Mrs Trapp, her son and team that made a lovely weekend holiday a very special one. Thank you very much for that, Ms. Trapp.

B&B Altes Rathaus has been a wonderful place to stay during our short trip from the U.K. to the Rhineland. Anna, the owner, has clearly worked very hard to make each guest feel as comfortable as possible. …
