For a short vacation we spent two nights in the youth hostel as a family. We booked half board, which was really worth it, the price/performance ratio is really very good here. The breakfast buffet was simple, but completely sufficient. At dinner there are two meals at the buffet, of course with and without meat. The salad bar was very fresh and delicious. The rooms are at youth hostel level. The rooms are perfectly furnished, the bathroom is simple and functional. The dining rooms are allocated for the stay and are well attended at meal times. Dinner is from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.The service was very accommodating, thank you very much for that.Even if you don't get much of a castle atmosphere inside, it is a beautiful and historic place. We actually wanted to go cycling but ended up hiking because the climb up and down to the castle would have been too difficult. But we weren't disappointed here, there is a beautiful landscape to see.

All in all a really nice youth hostel. Some things are standard (but it's not the Hilton, Adlon or similar), but traveling with children is very relaxing. There are various games to borrow and a kiosk. The only thing you would wish for was a little more choice when it comes to food, but you can live with it.

Nice youth hostel. Old castle, very rustic. Limited number of parking spaces. Good clean rooms. Well suited for larger groups.

A wonderful old building in a picturesque location, much nicer than expected, nice people, good breakfast, a double room for myself instead of a bed in the dorm, everything was great. But above all, this castle atmosphere is just great, plus the view of the valley and the hiking trails all around - it's a shame I didn't have more time.

We took 200 people to this castle at the weekend and I was really excited.Of course there is still the youth hostel feeling due to the simple rooms and you briefly feel like you have been transported back to the school trip from 25 years ago, but that makes up for the great ambience and the really delicious food and rich breakfast buffet. So no limp bread and rosehip tea, just roast beef, dumplings, red cabbage and mushrooms in cream sauce.Kudos to the staff!I was very excited and am looking forward to the next event in my community.

My review is a bit late 😊. We went to Freusburg last year for the “Burggespenster Weekend” and we really enjoyed it. Good program, room was fine (and with a great view!), food was good and the kids also liked it. A successful family trip.

A beautiful youth hostel, looks even better than on the internet. Our room is very tidy, small and nice, we think it's ideal. All employees are very friendly. We feel very comfortable.
