You can generally follow its predecessors, the hotel makes a nice impression from the outside. The dining area is beautifully decorated and the staff is always friendly and helpful. But that was it. For guests with half board there was a separate menu in the evening, narrower and more needy. The selection wasn't large, the quality of the food was varied. Our room was a bit small and wasn't cleaned properly because we found remnants of the previous ones in both trash cans.Despite the intensive and really friendly service from the staff, I don't want to come back.

The hotel is past its best, breakfast was okay, dinner with half board wasn't that good, our room was very small and the sink in the bathroom was super small

My girlfriend and I were spontaneously looking forward to 3 days in the Harz and chose the Altstadthotel Ilsenburg as our accommodation. For the special stay we booked the “Midnight in the Harz” package. In addition to 2 nights' accommodation, the package for 470 euros included a 3-course menu, a 4-course candlelight dinner, 2x rich breakfasts, a welcome fruit plate in the room, a bottle of red wine for the time for two, entry tickets for the Titan RT suspension rope bridge, a welcome drink, a visit to the home sauna and information maps. There was a parking space in the hotel courtyard, but it quickly filled up when there was good occupancy; there was only room for around 15 vehicles in the front area. Very narrow in the back area and not suitable for turning if there are a few vehicles there too. Some other public parking spaces are nearby within walking distance. Unfortunately, a parking space is not very helpful with a maximum parking time of 1 hour on working days when staying in a hotel. The welcome from the hotel staff was friendly and accommodating. The hotel room (double room) on the 1st floor of the main building was clean and okay. The restaurant is closed on Wednesdays and Sundays. Now to our experiences. It was disappointing that the welcome drink, the Titan RT cards, the red wine bottle and the fruit plate were simply forgotten and were not handed over, even though proof of the midnight arrangement was requested at check-in.There are 2 menu cards in the restaurant. A large one for restaurant guests with delicious starters, main courses, desserts and a large selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. And a smaller menu with a smaller, calculated selection of food and drinks for hotel guests with half board. Drinks have to be paid extra. Our candlelight dinner was also a disappointment. In my opinion, 3 tea lights and a few artificial flower garlands as table decorations are not a candlelight dinner, given the surcharge in relation to the more expensive arrangement compared to a normally booked overnight stay with half board. There was no wine on offer on the small menu. In terms of price, the menu selection on the menu seemed rather selected and meager by the hotel management. The taste is okay, but there isn't much choice for hotel guests. There really could be better. On Sunday, since the restaurant was closed, we were offered an alternative, a pizza restaurant at the train station, where we could eat our 3-course meal. Ultimately it was a bistro with a very clear menu with a few pizzas, salads, pasta and finger food on offer. So it's more of a fast food bistro for train station guests and a delivery service. The delivery service was also more important to the staff, so we decided not to eat there because we absolutely didn't like the price-performance ratio - booked a 3-course meal - eating in the fast food bistro at the train station - and ate on our own in Wernigerode, at your own expense. The breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. was good; there were only waiting times at the fully automatic coffee machine. Slightly slimmed down version on Mondays (no cake, no bacon and sausages with scrambled eggs). When we left we spoke to the nice lady at reception about what had gone wrong. We only received a total refund of 20 euros for the missing and inappropriate extras that were booked, with an apology for the inconvenience. Far too little in my opinion. Conclusion: The price-performance ratio was not really convincing and therefore too expensive. Staff friendly. If you are passing through and are looking for an overnight stay with breakfast and want to spend a little more money for it or want to stop for dinner during the restaurant's opening times, then it's okay. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend anything else. Too bad.

We (2 people) booked one night in the hotel and were accommodated in the bed block and not directly in the hotel. The reception at the reception was friendly, but the room is not really nice. Although it is largely clean, it is very simply and carelessly furnished. The wallpaper on the ceiling is loose and sagging. The bathroom is small. The sink is tiny. In the shower, the shower rod is loose and the towel rail is also very weak and the most serious drawback is the water pressure. The water drips more from the shower head than flows properly. Showering is very difficult and washing your hair is almost impossible. But there is also something positive: the breakfast was good. There was no buffet because there weren't enough guests in the hotel, but the breakfast plates at each table were varied and generously filled. All in all, we would not recommend the hotel and would not visit it again. The criticism made at checkout was acknowledged and resulted in an apology, but not a discount. I think 124 € for one night with breakfast is very excessive given the aforementioned deficiencies.

We went to the hotel twice for dinner. We were greeted and served very friendly. We liked the food very much. We ordered, among other things: a beef pan, baked bread with fillings and a dish with crispy fries. The dishes were very hot.The half liter of beer cost 5.00 euros. (A good price in Ilsenburg)
