We are hikers on the Malerweg and had one night here. An empty room without a sink, shower or toilet on the floor below us, no chance of getting anything to eat let alone drink. Location is quite nice with a great view of the Elbe, but that's really all. For over €100 a night, in my opinion the value for money in the region is not right. We wouldn't book again.

Nothing for day guests/hikers,The “castle” as such is interestingly furnished and also beautifully located.However, the booking process was a disaster.We wanted to change the booking from 2 people to 3 people, which was only answered reluctantly and with - that costs an extra service fee.On site we then paid the regular 90 euros + 50 euros extra for the 3 person = 140 euros without breakfast. 7.50 tourist tax is added on top.However, the regular family room costs 120 euros on the website?!Although there was only one other hiking couple on site apart from us, we were given a small room with an extra bed under the roof (very warm).The shower and toilet are in the hallway, which doesn't bother us, but in our opinion the price-performance ratio isn't right.We wouldn't come back.

The accommodation at Hirschgrund 94, Reinhandtsdorf - Shoena, SN 01814, was described [by Expedia] as a 3x hotel in an area of outstanding beauty, with friendly, English speaking staff.We booked the only room available, advertised as a triple room with 3 twin beds. The cost for two nights for two people was $227.28 [Euros], inclusive of tax. We visited the property in August 2020.Upon arrival, we were greeted by a couple who ran the "hotel." They spoke no English. To reach our reserved bedroom, we had to climb 50 + stairs. The last 20 + stairs were steep steps leading to the attic room. The room had three single field beds, I chair, 1 clothes rail and two small bedside tables. The shared bathroom was on the floor below. Breakfast was not available, contrary to the "hotel's" described facilities, although the host offered to provide bread and eggs from her own home, with additional charge. As the facility is a student type hostel accommodation, we had to prepare our own breakfast in the kitchen shared with other visitors.We had no sleep throughout the two nights we stayed there. The field bed I "slept" in creaked every time I moved. My partner's bed was just as creaky and each time one was of us moved, we were both woken up.The shower room was shared with four other visitors. The tiles in the shower cubicle had black mould growing on its walls.The whole "hotel" experience was nothing short of shocking. I would never ever again stay at the above facility.The area iitself is exquisitely beautiful, with great walks and excellent climbing opportunities.

Beautifully located above the Elbe (although a few meters above it), Schöna Castle offers a great view and is ideal for cyclists on the Elbe cycle path. Unfortunately, in our case the homepage was not up to date: there was no indication that the sauna and fitness room could not be used due to Corona - but the price was still unchanged and therefore relatively high for this very simple accommodation. Unfortunately, telephone availability is very poor.

Nice accommodation in a great location. Driving crossing to the mountains of Saxon Switzerland 1km away. The train runs close to the accommodation, which is why we had to keep the windows closed at night. The furnishings in the normal rooms are spartan. Otherwise, the internet was sufficient for video conferences and the manager of the accommodation was very accommodating.

Best location for hiking and other sporting activities: running, cycling, etc.A great location that is currently under renovation, but once completed it will be a real gem with a great offering! :-)) nice staff! We were able to work remotely there on Friday without any problems and then enjoy the weekend. WiFi is absolutely sufficient for video calls etc🤗

Not for day guests!With this review I just want to describe our experiences and impressions that we had during our short stay at Schöna Castle. We paid €85 for an overnight stay for two in summer 2020 without breakfast. In addition, the tourist tax was added. The concept of this accommodation is primarily designed for larger groups and not for day guests/hikers. The hosts attach great importance to community and shared (spontaneous) activities and there are only shared toilets, a commercial kitchen, etc. This review therefore primarily concerns day guests and hikers.As stage hikers, we only booked one overnight stay. I am aware that single overnight stays are not welcomed by many hosts and at this point a “We don’t offer” is sufficient, which I completely understand. The hosts at Schöna Castle pointed out to me on the phone that day guests and hikers are not welcome because of the somewhat higher expenditure, even if there are rooms specially equipped for this purpose. You do it reluctantly. Since there was no alternative in the wider area, I accepted the offer.During our short stay, the hosts repeatedly involved us in conversations (or rather monologues) where they gossiped in great detail about a wide variety of topics, including day guests like us and the "high" effort involved. At the end of such a monologue, we were actually "asked" to take off our bed linen ourselves the next morning and then carry it downstairs! There was no hesitation in telling us to our faces again and again that day guests like us were "actually" not welcome, along with other things that I won't go into here. At the same time, there was plenty of self-praise for the spontaneous barbecues, which were well received by the guests. Even after we politely declined twice, the topic was brought up again and again. As if there was no understanding that guests could have their own plans. Overall, we found all interactions with the hosts to be very stressful and lengthy. Most of the time you just listen politely.The room:Our room was sparsely furnished especially for day guests and was mostly clean. Towels and bed linen were clean. A rickety little table, two chairs, two rickety IKEA cots for sleeping on, two cheap metal bedside tables that make noise every time you touch them and a sink with a mirror. While we were sleeping, the IKEA cots wobbled at the slightest movement and hit each other with a dull sound, so that sleep was out of the question. So I pushed the bunks apart a bit. We had to laugh when we saw potato chips on the floor between the bunks (I'm attaching a picture). Since the house is very close to the railway tracks, you can clearly hear the freight train traffic until late at night (around midnight). Overall, the room is fine for hikers and day guests. The sleeping cots are OK and you can sleep on them. The dirt under the bunks was the only criticism of the room. On our stage hike, all of the other accommodations had significantly higher levels of comfort, TVs and excellent breakfasts for less money than in Schöna Castle.Conclusion:Please note that the concept of this accommodation is aimed primarily at larger groups. Day visitors and hikers are explicitly not welcome, but are still treated superficially in a friendly manner. I can imagine that large groups who want to stay for several nights can have a nice time there. Especially those who like getting to know each other and barbecue evenings and want to spend a lot of time at the castle can definitely have a good time there. Day visitors and especially stage hikers definitely stay away and save their nerves.

Nice, spacious house, beautiful view of the Elbe, national park directly opposite, beautiful mountains, everything was beautiful in the truest sense of the word except for the behavior of the former property manager. In the rooms you will find the house rules which include: says that you should have respect for the house, ....., and staff and the administration. This is incomprehensible to me and totally ironic when, after arriving (a long drive) you are lectured and complained about several times or almost insulted. I'm leaving out details because it shocks me and the homeowners can't help it. But that really wasn't ok! If I had customers who rented the entire house for a whole month, I would be “a little friendlier.” You want them to come back...

We were warmly welcomed by Anja and Heiko and had a really wonderful stay at Schöna Castle in the following days. It's an almost family atmosphere, the communal kitchen and the living room for everyone, where you can sit by the stove after a hike. We didn't miss anything and we were able to really let go. Everything was also very clean. The surroundings are quiet and idyllic. Thanks again Anja and Heiko, we'll be back!

Great, very committed hosts, cozy and clean rooms with a direct view of the Elbe and the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. With the ferry and a bit of walking you can quickly get to Schmilka. Uncomplicated arrival and departure, nice common rooms, everything you need can be found in the kitchen. Despite self-catering, there was a barbecue one evening. Coffee, cereal, spices etc. are available in the kitchen. We'd love to come back, thank you for the great stay!
