Holiday farm Henning OmmenPetting cats, feeding pigs, riding ponies and holding rabbits - holidays on the farm are not just an experience for families with children!Henning Ommen's holiday farm is child-friendly. The farm, right on the healthy North Sea in East Frisia, is actively managed by the Henning Ommen family with their children Thilo, Sven, Björn, Hendrik and their grandmother Marlis. The family is very nice and you feel welcome. The welcome was home-baked cake and coffee. However, the children's paradise had its best time. The trampolines are partly broken, but the various Kettcar and slide cars work perfectly, a tree house with a dull slide and the "sandpit" with all sorts of excavators and other toys turns out to be a pile of sand between windward and leeward. There is a garage for storing bicycles. However, there is no cycle path on the adjacent “express road”.The “Baltrum” apartment was clean and the kitchen was adequately equipped. This is the attic apartment. This is not shown on the internet. The many sloping roofs have caused one or two dents in our house. Anyone over 1.80 meters should avoid this apartment. We paid 65 euros per day.The holiday farm has cats that you can pet. Very large pigs that were just lying around in a box. Two ponies standing around in a pasture (electric fence). Lots of cows that you can get very close to, rabbits and guinea pigs that you can go into their enclosures. And a Labrador who seems to love children, but doesn't listen to commands. Anyone who has anxious children should keep an eye on this. The farm is actively managed. We saw next to nothing of the Ommen family. Seasonally we had a few days of bad/cooler weather. Nevertheless, we had pleasant vacation days.****BONUS INFORMATION ABOUT THE AREACarolinensiel is a district of Wittmund in the district of the same name in Lower Saxony. Carolinensiel consists of several curves, a traffic light and a zebra crossing. Driving is like on the Nürburgring. Teaching children how to behave properly as pedestrians in traffic can be forgotten here.***The doll café is a bright spot. The Carolinensiel website describes the café as follows: “Far away from the noise of the streets, right next to the picturesque museum harbor, you can enjoy East Frisian hospitality.” We can agree with that and are pleased that the city feels the same way about the traffic situation. In the café there are a few antique dolls and toys from great-grandmother's time. They give the café a cozy and very special atmosphere. The service was really friendly and the cream puffs and cake were excellent.***The beach at Harlesiel is really beautiful, if you ignore the dogs and the crowds that go with them. Maybe it's because of the time of year (autumn-winter) that people can no longer bend down to look at their best friend's pile.***The playground in front of the beach is clean and offers lots of equipment for the children to play and laugh. If it has rained, some devices will be slightly submerged in water (rubber boots). The “Wattkieker” restaurant, which is within sight, is really recommended. Fair prices and good food. Hopefully the broken changing table will be repaired next season.***We recommend that all visitors not only look at the opening times of the primary destinations. From November onwards the region becomes quite unattractive for visitors with small children. It might still be enough for a day at the beach (as long as the Wattkieker is open). Anything beyond that can be difficult.
