The mattresses were very dirty but at least the bed linen was okay. The food was rather poor but apart from the food and the cleanliness the youth hostel is okay. The WiFi is OK but doesn't reach into the rooms (the password is the same as the name from the WiFi) and in comparison of price/performance ratio, this youth hostel is quite good. The beach is only about 1-2 minutes away and the nearest supermarket is about 2km away, so the location is great. Overall, it's still only three stars because there wasn't that much in this youth hostel to do (as a recommendation to the owner please clean the mattresses it's very disgusting) and you can't sit on the bottom bed because the distance between the two beds is too small

The home management was very friendly and gave us great support. The staff was extremely helpful. Really great team. Food was okay, but unfortunately the room standard is no longer up to par. It urgently needs to be modernized.

Bad. Insects everywhere that look like venom. Smells very bad there and food doesn't taste good. It looks like prison and there is mold everywhere in the communal showers. It's better not to defecate for a week because otherwise you'll die from the smell.

We came for a week as a large youth group to spend our holiday camp there (40 people). We were warmly welcomed and given our rooms. The food was good value for money, and consideration was also given to people who unfortunately had intolerances or were on a vegetarian diet. When asked whether you could get a coffee machine for your own use, you responded directly and provided one, although this was just one of the actions that reflected the flexibility of the staff. All in all, we were very satisfied with the hostel itself but especially with the friendly staff. We'd love to come back!

There were very clean sanitary facilities and nice staff. The food was very varied and tasty. What was also very good was that table football and a table tennis table were available. We were all very happy with this accommodation. The location is perfect, you just have to walk over the dune and you are already at the sea

A week ago I was on a youth camp with my troop. Our children loved the food, especially the alternating desserts and the barbecue were the highlight! Otherwise very friendly home parents and staff. Everything is taken into account and taken into account. It is cleaned and maintained every 2 days. We can't complain. It was really great! And the private jetty to the beach is also great. Everything else, be it the nearest Edeka or mudflat hiking, is within walking distance! Only recommended!

I've already had it for the 12th time with the music train from LaatzenUsed the services of the home on the dune.Accommodation, food and contact with the home management wereterrific. You can tell that the “management” of the home is with you“Body and soul” is there. Also this year during Ascension Day, the very friendly home management around Lydia and Sönke did everything they could to make us feel completely comfortable in the home, which is very close to the beach.As always, the breakfast rolls and dinner were great and varied.Of course the rooms are no longer up to date, but that's part of the charm of a hostel. They are clean and the well-maintained showers are hot. You don't need anything more. You can't expect a 5* hotel for the great price/performance ratio.

The music train of the volunteer fire department of the city of Laatzen has been traveling to Hörnum to the AWO Heim an der Düne during Ascension Week since 2005. The members of the band feel very comfortable there and there are no complaints.We were always welcomed very warmly by the home management and had a lot of fun together.The meals are also plentiful and delicious.My personal saying: "It tastes nice in your mouth!!!!"Lothar PaarmannFormer music platoon leader

As is often the case with youth hostels: Best location and very nice hostel parents and service staff.The rooms are functionally furnished and absolutely sufficient (for the few hours at night to sleep)The food is varied and there is something for every taste. I was particularly impressed by the positive atmosphere in the house. The team spirit and the joy of work can be felt everywhere.We felt very comfortable here for the third time and would love to come back.

I can only recommend it to anyone looking for peace and relaxation.Here it's called "back to the roots"-simple, clean, home cooking. - Great!This hostel is particularly ideal for clubs or small groups (e.g. cycling clubs) who want to ENJOY their stay in a relaxed atmosphere. The whole thing without any big frills. Thank God. Here you can simply unwind. Fenced property ideal for families with small children. Who don't want to make great demands. 50 m over the hill to the sea. Room with bunk beds, table, cupboard. That's completely enough. In addition to individual separate showers, there is also a large family bathroom. TOPCLASS hostel parents who fulfill every wish. Whether the beer was gone (with refills) or a shuttle was needed. You just have to ask. Several large lounges available. GRILL,Play equipment for children. There is also WiFi.I felt very comfortable and would love to come back.Gr. Sandra from Hanover

Top hostel parents!!!👍👍As I have done so many times before, I have been on the island with the musicians over Ascension Day. It's always nice to be served with good food by nice people, no matter how many visits we've made friends. Even though the home is no longer new after so many years, we always enjoy being there and have a lot of fun. Always a pleasure!!👍👍

The purest rant!The former barracks were apparently never renovated after their use as barracks. The “mattresses” resembled gymnastics mats, although the latter would certainly have been more comfortable. The beds were both not high enough and too short. If you were over 1.65m tall, it was hardly possible to get a restful sleep, which was also contributed to by the walls being far too thin. The water dispensers could only be used during meal times (morning and evening). The breakfast was okay, as were the packed lunches. For dinner there was either almost uncooked or unsalted pasta with meat or diluted tomato sauce, no trace of vegetables. In the smaller of the two houses there were 2 showers and 2 toilets for 24 people. In the big house, however, there were moldy communal showers.The only good thing about “Heim an der Düne” is its length, as the youth hostel is located directly behind a dune, which means the beach can be reached within 2 minutes. In addition, the home managers were very nice and always tried hard. However, there was no sign of cleaning staff.The accommodation urgently needs renovation, alternatively demolition is also possible.

Inhumane conditions! Together with my level, I had the honor of living or surviving in the home on the dune from September 19th, 2022 to September 23rd. The conclusion from 4 nights is as follows:Inedible food. Dinner consisted of uncooked and unsalted pasta. The breakfast was very simple, but OK. One evening, my 3 friends and I's affiliation with the level was questioned by the home director, which is why we were not served any food and had to survive on 5 minutes of pasta and the toast we had brought with us.The rooms were a complete disaster. The floor was covered in a layer of dust and there were tons of dead animals hanging on the walls. I even discovered blood from a dead mosquito on the curtains. Not to mention a fairly large hole in the wall, the contents of which I'll probably never be able to identify (see pictures). The beds were too short, too narrow and gave me neck, shoulder and back pain from the first day until I left.I don't even want to start talking about dirty and moldy showers and dirty communal toilets.I wouldn't recommend a trip to the home on the dune to anyone. What I can recommend, however, is renovating or even demolishing the youth hostel.

The location is great, but the beds look like prison beds but they are still very comfortable, you just have to go up a flight of stairs down a mini dune then up another dune and you are on the beach. The food is super great
