Very suitable for family leisure. Very friendly handover. We use the house as a self-catering house and that was ideal for our group. There are rooms on the top two floors. These are of different sizes (2 beds - 5 bed rooms) and functionally furnished (1 closet/bunk bed). There is a shared bathroom on each sleeping floor, which has been renovated and is absolutely sufficient. There are also 2 further family bathrooms in the basement. The common room on the ground floor is large and sufficient for around 30 people. The self-catering kitchen is well equipped with all the appliances you need as a group (stove + oven, convection oven, industrial dishwasher, 2 large refrigerators, microwave, coffee machine). Since the kitchen is in the basement, you have to climb a few stairs to the group dining room. The outdoor area of the hostel is also great. There is plenty of space for children to run around right on the edge of the forest. On the site itself there is a table tennis table, a football field, a volleyball court with a net, a campfire area (you can order wood from the house or find it yourself in the forest) and a barbecue area with a large group table right next to the house. The price-performance ratio is absolutely right, as everything you need is there - even WiFi ;-)We had a great New Year's Eve weekend with 29 people, big and small, and would like to come back.

Idyllic location and a beautiful house. A lot has been renovated, new windows are currently being installed and a shared bathroom is brand new. In my opinion it didn't work well, because e.g. B. a motion detector is installed, which sometimes leaves you standing in the dark while showering. In this room there are 2 showers, 2 toilets and 2 sinks, beautifully made but impractical. The mattresses in the beds urgently need to be replaced. The breakfast was good and all in all the price-performance ratio was right.Totally okay for a weekend.

The youth hostel has everything you need.We were here self-catering with 25 people. The furnishings are simple but functional. We didn't actually miss anything. The kitchen is well equipped. Unfortunately, the dishwasher isn't suitable at all, so you have to either pre-wash or rinse by hand.If you forget something, there are shopping opportunities nearby (the REWE bakery is even open on Sundays). The staff is very friendly. There are certainly more modern youth hostels, but the charm of the old building and the quiet location also have their appeal.

The reason for the one star right in advance: We had booked the hostel completely and as self-catering (approx. 40 guests). After the handover back to the landlord (without a protocol) was completed and no defects caused by us were discovered, there are now subsequent problems with the deposit. This is retained in full by the operators without proving exactly what the costs were incurred for. We handed over the house in a clean and tidy condition, which was also confirmed to us. After we had all left, there were now contradictory statements about alleged damage/contamination that we could not understand. Since no agreement is possible and the communication is very unprofessional, I can unfortunately only give one star.Otherwise: A really nice house, in a relaxed location with simple but good facilities (the kitchen could do with a little more cookware, more practical solutions regarding the distribution of space in the house and a functional dishwasher). Overall, we had a great time here, only the points mentioned above cloud the overall picture.Recommendation: insist on handover protocols in order to avoid this deposit debacle and to document existing damage to the facility in advance.

We rented the entire youth hostel as self-catering for 6 days over the turn of the year 19/20; 12 families, 40 people.Positive: The facilities themselves are OK as expected for a youth hostel. Everyone felt very comfortable. What is really special is the old half-timbered structure, the large rooms for fun even in bad weather and the many opportunities for outdoor activities nearby. All important kitchen equipment and crockery/cutlery are available, although you have to be well organized to carry meals back and forth between the basement (kitchen) and the dining room (1st floor). But it worked well because everyone was willing to lend a hand. Overall, we actually had a really nice time, a quiet turn of the year and lots of happy faces.Suggestions for improvement:- Unfortunately, the dishwasher cannot clean even with pre-rinsing by hand.- The waste separation system could use more trash cans that match the large bins.- A lockable children's gate for the basement stairs, high risk of accidents for small children.Very negative (hence 1 star):After our departure and the handover of the house had already been completed, the deposit we had paid was withheld. The reasons for this were allegedly dirty and broken dishes (see dishwasher), damage to furniture and a dirty mattress. None of the damage was caused by us or resulted in some cases from inadequate equipment. Since we were already back in Dresden/Leipzig/Berlin, we were no longer able to inspect the damage ourselves or check the allegations. No conclusive evidence is provided to prove that the damage was caused by us. When asked, the allegations were put into perspective - except for the mattress - and it was even admitted that the house was handed over in very good condition - but at the same time other little things were listed that allegedly led to the deposit being withheld. However, this again without proof or without a substantial difference compared to use in the regular, orderly operation of the youth hostel. A final invoice with a counter-calculation of the deposit against the specific damage amounts will not be created, but is important in order to be able to understand the damage caused - especially taking into account the remaining useful value of the damaged items. An amicable agreement by the operators in this matter will not be pursued, but will be put on hold. We hope this is not standard business practice. For us, this approach is unacceptable and, even with the overall quality of the accommodation being 4 to 5 stars, it can actually only deserve a 0 star. It's a shame, because now this thing is overshadowing the great experiences of 40 actually satisfied travelers.Warning to all bookers of the entire youth hostel as self-catering: When taking over the youth hostel and handing it over, document the condition of the entire house in detail (including all mattresses, on both sides) in order to avoid retaining the deposit.

Very nice youth hostel in the Thuringian Forest. We were there as a group of 20 and were accommodated very well.
