The DJH youth hostel Haus der Jugend on Heligoland is simply great. The location is fantastic with great sea views and close enough to all the main places on the island. The rooms are clean and comfortable, ideal for a relaxing stay. The breakfast and meals are varied and delicious - just the right thing to start the day full of energy. Particularly noteworthy is the friendly and helpful team, which is always there to answer questions and concerns. You simply feel welcome here. A perfect place for a stay on Heligoland.

We were on Helgoland with our children in August 2024 and it was the best vacation we have ever had! The location of the youth hostel is a dream. Food was good, rooms were clean so perfect. We can only recommend the trips to the neighboring island of Dune. There are seals to see and lots of fine white sand. Thanks to the youth hostel team!!

Limited use for older people, very deep beds and hard. Food takes some getting used to, snack character.

The youth hostel is on the north beach, a fantastic location even if you have to walk a bit to get into town. The rooms are not particularly comfortable, just functionally furnished. The cleanliness is fine and the dinner with full board can still be improved given the price.A few steps to the Jägersteig to get to the Oberland.Great island, lots of interesting sights, whether bunkers, rocks, harbors or dunes...

The location right on the beach was great, although it smelled strongly of algae and there were lots of seaweed flies that were annoying. But the rooms are extremely small. The walls between the rooms appear to only be made of plywood, so they are extremely noisy. The staff is very unfriendly, especially towards children, completely inappropriate for a youth center. The food was really bad and simple and monotonous, definitely not worth booking. Overall, I can only advise against this youth hostel, you can find something else for the price.

I have already been a guest in many youth hostels - I consider these to be among the worse. While the location is hard to beat, the space no longer meets the standard that most establishments have now achieved. This may be due to the fact that the house is a listed building and renovations on an offshore island can be a challenge anyway. The rooms are extremely noisy and very small. There is little storage space. The sanitary facilities are clean and tidy. There is only one sink in the rooms. The food was ok, but could have been more varied. There were the same types of cold cuts and jam every day. Here, too, the standard is now better elsewhere. The charm of the employees was Nordic and austere. Conclusion: there is better for the price - but probably not on Helgoland.

Visiting here on a long weekend with a large family. The location is great, the rooms are clean, but very noisy, you can hear every word spoken in the next room. Therefore a bit difficult for light sleepers. The breakfast was completely fine, but the dinner was unfortunately really not good. There were very few vegetables on offer, and choosing them is very difficult, especially with smaller children. A simple salad or some raw vegetables would add value. However, the small sports hall with table tennis and table football was a big plus. Overall, a good choice for larger groups.

Very nice staff, there were good recommendations, for example where you can rent a scooter for adults. Unfortunately the food was a bit monotonous. Only eggs on Sunday! Salad usually only one type. Coffee on Sunday morning after just 45 minutes. Ok, there is still potential for improvement. But I'll come back sometime.
