Wow – What a find!I found this hotel though an internet search on Google Maps as, due to the pandemic, I was having trouble finding accommodation for the dates we wanted. The Heddons Gate Hotel was just what we wanted, quiet and secluded, clean and comfortable, great breakfast and welcoming hosts. Mark and Pat made us feel really at home, and nothing was too much trouble. Complimentary tea and cake is on offer every afternoon, when you can sit on the extensive patio areas and chat, or read, or just look at the fantastic view. If you are a person that wants a lively nightlife or you are not comfortable with Devon’s narrow winding roads, then this probably isn’t the place for you, but otherwise it is the perfect destination. I rarely give recommendations, but I can’t recommend this hotel enough.September 2024Regrettably this hotel was sold a year or so after we stayed there, and is currently being ‘refurbished’. What the future holds for Heddon’s Gate Hotel is unknown to me.

The views from the terrace patio is breathtakingly amazing! Don’t hesitate to book your night away/holiday with Pat and Mark!!

We had a short break in this recently refurbished Hotel. Pat & Mark were very welcoming and proudly showed us around the many rooms which were all of a very high standard...the dining room is delightful as is the food graciously presented on fine bone china and crisp white linen. We found that our hosts shared our off the wall sense of humour which added to our enjoyment. Dont miss Marks tour of his Dr Who like Eco boiler...the love of his life after Pat of course. They deserve to succeed in this new venture .

Two reviews here. A short one and a long one.Short One:-Amazing hosts-Comfy beds-Spacious rooms-Stunning views-Lovely food-Book a stay - you won't be disappointed.Long One:We ended up at Heddon's Gate completely by accident after being let down by another hotel that had double booked. The other hotel did us a huge favour!!!Upon arrival, Pat and Mark made us feel completely at home, taking what was a pretty negative situation (driving for hours with two kids in tow, only to be turned away elsewhere) into an incrediby happy one for my family and I.They made every effort to accommodate us all in the last room they had available and moved us to a bigger room the following night so that our children had more space. The hotel is set in some stunning countryside which takes you away from your day to day worries. There are also lots of communal rooms to relax in and enjoy. Throughout our stay we felt very much part of the fabric of the hotel and were welcomed with a smile at every turn.Having stayed in for dinner on two nights, we can very much vouch for the food too! Great Sunday Roast and a very tasty curry. The photos don't do this place justice and we thoroughly look forward to our next visit. If you are looking for a base for walking Exmoor or for day visits to Lynnouth, Woolacombe, etc, just book and enjoy!

We had a marvellous week at Heddon's Gate. Mark and Pat were perfect hosts and suggested regularly nice activities. Hiking trips can start right in front of the hotel: a walk to Heddon's Mouth is a must-do when you stay there and you can do numerous activities in the Exmoor National Park. The only drawback is, that they don't serve dinner in the evenings most of the time. We sometimes had a picnic on the garden terrace and there are some good restaurants in the area.If the sky is clear, don't miss to look at the stars at night!
