We stayed here for one night during a walking trip in Dartmoor with our dog. The room had a beautiful view onto the hills, and was clean and comfortable. A great spot to relax and regroup after a day out in the moors. The dinner offering was fab. We both went for a pie, which was absolutely delicious. When asked about a dessert, we asked for more pie - we were only half joking. A great hearty meal. The pub landlady was welcoming and clearly loves Dartmoor - we loved hearing about life here and hope to return again.

The landlord has a short temper and was triggered into a rage when I tried to order a cider for my 16 year old son to have with his meal. I had booked a table for dinner and was aware of the law allowing him a pint with a meal. I wasn’t aware that I had to ask the landlord’s permission to do this, nor wasI aware that the cider had to be ordered at the table at the same time we ordered the food. I was also not aware that this incident would have resulted in the landlord being jailed, had he not aggressively challenged my son for age verification, humiliated the girl working behind the bar, embarrassed the friendly locals sitting next to me at the bar and delivered a long patronising lecture to me. I listened politely, took on board the message in spite of the awfully unpleasant way it was delivered and genuinely apologised to the landlord for getting it wrong. He ignored this and flounced off, leaving the girl at the bar clearly shaken and the friendly locals having to apologise to me for his bad behaviour. Given that we had walked 30 minutes from our campsite and there were no other options for supper in the area we stuck with it and stayed for an average meal at above average prices. The view from the restaurant is pretty good but the garden and pub in general is fairly run down. We obviously won’t be coming back. I hope the landlord can take this on board as constructive criticism and treat his visiting patrons with dignity, kindness and respect, even when they make a mistake or don’t know the letter of the law.

We arrived on Saturday to explore the area and as we parked up and got out the car, an employee explained we couldn’t use their car park - fair enough - except when we got in the car (it was raining) to discuss whether we’d like to go in for a drink and a snack, the same woman came out the pub waving her arms and aggressively gestured to get out!Quite unbelievable considering we may have stayed. Rude, terrible customer service - never to return!

A return after a 5 year break and Kevin's welcome and Suzanne's food are as good as always! We were staying 'round the corner' not at the pub, but the food was good, honest, tasty fare that was welcome both evenings we ate there. Leave room for the sticky toffee and chocolate brownie puddings...you need to!!

Stayed here whilst walking the Two Moors Way and would thoroughly recommend it. The room was quiet, clean, comfortable and had nice views out over the valley below. The hosts were friendly, engaging and extremely courteous. …

My dog and I had such a great stay and felt really cared for! Great for the Two Moors way. Awesome black out curtains and cosy bed and room. Great food. They went above and beyond to do gluten free and vegan food options. Definitely recommend.

We found the Tradesmans a little disappointing. We were in the area for a New Year getaway and had phoned previously to see if they would be serving meals, the landlord on the phone was very friendly and said that they were. When we arrived we couldn't get to the bar because those there wouldn't make room for us, we were told that they weren't serving food and when I asked for 4 drinks I was told to "wait! ", I was served 2 then asked again what else I wanted. The beer was good the wine average and the overall experience disappointing.
