Rooms are dated with woodchip wallpaper which haven't seen a lick of paint in many years. The bed sheets had an unidentifed stain and the matress was pretty much just springs. There was a strange musty smell and there were mousetraps by the headboard. The shower flow was a trickle at best and the hot tap was a wall mounted boiler, as we popular in public toilets. The landing /hallway were heavily soiled and the woodwork desperatley needs painting. The proprieter was polite and helpful when i arrived late at night and took the time to explain how the front door key fob works. The guest house is in the middle of a housing estate and leaving for work in the morning the roads were conjested and cars parked illegally as parents were taking kids to school and walking out from behind parked cars.

What an utter disgrace. Terrible service; rude & dismissive. Rooms not cleaned in god knows how long. Booked 2 nights and ended up driving the 2.5 hours home instead on both nights instead of suffering this place any longer than needed

A very convenient and economical place to stay if you are visiting the NEC. Very convenient and parking is good. There are a number of good restaurants near by. A very easy going hotel. Breakfast is very adhoc. The rooms and facilities are satisfactory for the price paid.

I sent a message to the location when I booked letting them know I'd prefer a downstairs room because I was bringing my wheelchair. I let them know I can walk a bit so a step here or there was fine but generally I needed something accessible. They said that was no problem and accepted the booking. When I arrived, the staff person let me know that the only downstairs rooms they had had a shared bathroom down the hall rather than an ensuite. Also, someone was already in those rooms, but if I wanted, they could make those people move to the room I booked, which was apparently upstairs.Being trans and disabled, I don't like to share bathrooms, and I really wasn't thrilled with the prospect of rousting whoever was in the downstairs room and forcing them to move to the room I booked. Also, the room I booked was more expensive, I guess because it had its own ensuite bathroom+shower, and there was no mention of a refund for the difference. So I dragged myself and my chair up the narrow staircase with a 90 degree landing in the middle and got settled in. The room itself was about 7ft x 10ft which is NOT how it looked in the photos, the bathroom door had no lock on it, which I guess isn't a huge deal for a room meant for one person, but felt weird. The wallpaper where the bed was was gross, and with my chair in the room there wasn't room for much else. No mini fridge or microwave in the room but that's fine, whatever. The bathroom was moldy, had a step up into the VERY small shower, and the whole thing was only about 2ft wide by 5 ft long. The wallpaper was peeling, the toilet was loose where it met the ground, and the fan was also gross. The platform the shower sat on was moldy as well. I ended up not showering while I was there. The TV was not actually a TV, but just a radio? Which was weird. The bed was comfy enough.Tbh I would stay there again if I was a solo traveler who just needed a bed to sleep in for the night. It was cheap (£40 per night plus fees so £90 for my two nights).AFTER I checked out I found out there was a ground floor family suite with it's own bathroom and entrance, but of course I wasn't offered that, which was a higher price than my room and also already booked, just the single room with a shared bathroom that was cheaper with no refund for the difference and already booked as well. The shared bathroom was also tiny and inaccessible, and the door didn't open all the way, so it would have been difficult for me to use. The shared bathroom rooms each had their own shower, I assume similar to the one in my room.It was a cute BnB. It could use a good clean and some new wallpaper but tbh it was safe, quiet, and cute. It had a breakfast nook area with several tables and you could grab some cereal or toast or whatnot any time. There was a downstairs lounge with a couch and a tv.But bottom line, if someone books your hotel, and sends you a notice they need it to be accessible, and you know damn well it isn't accessible in ANY stretch of the imagination, just say so and cancel the booking and refund me! I'm lucky enough to be an ambulatory wheelchair user so I was able to manage and drag my chair up and down the stairs, but if I had higher accessibility needs, I wouldn't have even been able to get in the building, let alone use the toilet/shower or make it up a flight of stairs. It's just unacceptable to accept a booking when you know you cannot accommodate the person. It's fine that you can't (although not really, ramps exist and the front walk is easy to make accesible) but then just say so so I can book somewhere else! Like why? Just why? Honestly shame on y'all.

Absolutely disgusting and unfit for animals. I am a landlord and i could never rent out a place as disgusting and as run down as this, how they are able to run this as a business and profit from it is beyond me. …

The room was damp wallpaper peeling, dirt and mould everywhere in building. Only stayed a few hours for a sleep on way home from airport. It all looked very grubby. The man in charge was very polite. The breakfast convenient that we could help ourselves, but wouldn’t stay again. It was cheap but the smell was intoxicating

I recently stayed at the Charde Guest House in Birmingham with my family, opting for the garden hut accommodation. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a friendly lady who showed us to our garden hut and provided us with all the necessary information, including the WiFi details. Unfortunately, our experience at the guest house was far from satisfactory. One of the major issues we encountered was the overall state of disrepair of the property. It became apparent that many aspects of the hut were old and falling apart. This greatly affected our comfort and enjoyment during our stay. In particular, the bedsheets, pillows, covers, and duvet were stained and clearly unclean. It seemed as though they hadn't been changed or properly washed prior to our arrival. This lack of cleanliness was disappointing and made it difficult for us to relax and feel at ease. Moreover, we faced a disturbing incident in the toilet. Although it initially appeared clean, there was a persistent and unpleasant odor emanating from the area near the WC or commode pot. To our horror, while I was sitting on the WC, I leaned down to grab something and the entire fixture lifted up from one side. This revealed that it was not properly sealed or secured to the ground. Additionally, we noticed two small insects emerging from beneath it. This incident left us feeling deeply concerned about the safety of the facilities, particularly for the well-being of our family members. It is alarming to think that any of us could have potentially had an accident due to this faulty toilet arrangement. Considering the numerous issues we encountered, including the general lack of maintenance and safety concerns, we strongly believe that the Charde Guest House needs significant improvements before it can be considered a suitable accommodation option, especially for families with children. It is crucial that the property is thoroughly fixed and refurbished to ensure the safety and comfort of future guests. We sincerely hope that these issues are addressed promptly, as it would greatly enhance the overall experience of staying at Charde Guest House.Overall, our stay at Charde Guest House was marred by the subpar condition of the garden hut and its amenities. We were disappointed by the lack of cleanliness, the disrepair of the property, and the safety hazards we encountered. It is our sincere recommendation that potential guests consider alternative accommodations until these issues are properly resolved.

most of the other good reviews on here say "cheap & cheerful" and I can't disagree with that. we paid £55 for 1 night in a twin room on a busy weekend when even your budget Birmingham hotels like Travelodge and Ibis wanted more than double that, and I reckon we got good value for money.the room was no frills, but the beds were comfy and there were plenty of convenient wall sockets for charging electronic devices (better than every chain hotel I've ever stayed in where the sockets are always the opposite side of the room from your bed). it was warm too, much appreciated on a cold winter's night, and given the price I was happy they didn't cut corners on this despite crazy energy price rises!the main downside was the toilet / shower room. the only ventilation was one very dusty extractor fan that clearly wasn't doing enough, as the wallpaper on the shower room's ceiling had started to peel away and go mouldy. the flooring was starting to peel away at the corners too, and the toilet and sink didn't seem to be attached to the wall or floor properly. I wasn't too bothered by this but it would definitely stop me from staying more than one night here; it's not a room I'd want to take a full shower in. it'd be much better if they'd tiled the entire space and made it more of a wet room; the space is tiny so it surely couldn't cost that much in the long term, even for a budget guest house.breakfast being included was a major highlight, though, and really made me feel like I was getting value for money (I'd have had to pay an extra £10 or more to get breakfast for two people at a chain budget hotel). the breakfast room is a pleasant little space where you serve yourself with whatever you like. there's white & brown bread for you to make toast, a decent selection of jams, spreads & cereals, plenty of orange juice in the fridge, tea & coffee supplies (quality Yorkshire Tea was appreciated!), and even the facility to boil yourself some eggs if that's what you want in the morning. because it's self serve, you can get up as early or as late as you need to and still have breakfast; there's no arbitrary cut off time other than when you need to check out.the location was convenient for us; it's a 35-40min bus ride from the centre of Birmingham, or about 12-15min walk from Lea Hall train station, which has direct links to the airport, so there's plenty of ways for you to get about the city. if you drive, there's parking on site for you too. yes, it's under the flight path of Birmingham airport, but so is pretty much all of this side of the city so if that bothers you then maybe Birmingham is not for you!if I need to overnight in Birmingham again, this is definitely somewhere budget friendly I'd return to for a quick stay. but I wouldn't recommend staying here any longer than one night until the shower facilities have had the refurb they sorely need.
