Location is the best. For the price it's best.Only bad point is, if you have a luggage which is of importance but of regular use like laptop, they don't have a good size personal safe. You can keep it in the luggage room though. However my suggestion is, if you can take laptop with you whenever you go out, this place is best

The location is the only good thing about this hostel. The service was fine, people are nice and gave us all the information we needed. But the rooms... We got a 12 people room. 6 bunk beds, the room is so small you can barely turn around. No storage space or lockers, but each bunk bed got A CHAIR, and when somebody took ours, the recepcionist said there aren't any extra chairs, so we had to keep our stuff on the floor. We found extra chairs by ourselves the next day, 12 of them.On top of that, the room has a very small window which is only open 1h per day, meaning the room smells like shoes, feet, perfume and moist. The beds are squeaky and rocking like crazy. The sockets for charging, our room had it only by our beds, so I was woken up many times by people mettling around and even unolugging my phone to charge theirs. The bathrooms are a mess and don't have normal shower, but some kid of system where the water only goes when the button is pressed down, and the temperature chsnges by itself. It went from boiling hot to freezing by itself at least 3 times during my 5 minute showers. If you really have to stay only one night and on a budget, you can go there. We stayed for 4 nights and both came back home exhausted and sick. Edinburgh is a beautiful city and staying in a place like this will ruin your experience. It is better to pay a bit more and actually sleep like a human being than to be put in a small smelly room. Complete disaster and I don't want anybody to have this experience.

The staff members are lovely. They're volunteers so the atmosphere is very homely. I and some other women had some issues with another guest and they were very understanding and sorted the issue quickly. The rooms are clean, good kitchen and nice common area. Only downside is that not all the rooms have plug sockets by the beds and some of the beds are very squeaky.

My experience at this accommodation was absolutely positive. From the moment I arrived, I felt safe and comfortable. My bed was perfectly situated near power sockets, making it easy to charge my devices, and I was impressed by the cleanliness—everything was truly spotless. The atmosphere was warm and cosy, and the service was nothing short of phenomenal. The people in my room were friendly and respectful, adding to the overall great experience, and the property itself is spacious and located in a prime area, making it easy to explore the surroundings. This place exceeded all my expectations. The temperature was just right, and the showers and bathrooms were in excellent condition—modern, well-maintained, and sparkling clean. It’s clear that the staff take great pride in ensuring a top-notch experience for their guests. I highly recommend this accommodation to anyone looking for a comfortable and welcoming stay. You won't be disappointed! The only downside was stained squicky beds.

Mixed hostel and average for the price. I have been to many hostels before. I booked for 2 nights from Booking and got discount I extended a night, and price was increased by £10 even after applying a 15% discount. The guy on the reception was just wasting time and keep on engaging with conversations without helping anyone, just a waste of time. I booked 6 bed dorm and was given place in 12 bed dorn, which was not great. But good. Just average hostel and not fancy. Far for the old Edinburgh town so you have to shell £4-6 for any location within city. Not a good location.

The rooms stenched of mold and wetness. The dust was unbearable as someone with dust allergy. The windows were unbelievably dirty and did not seal the sound a little bit so in the night you absolutely need ear protection. And the matresses were a absolute joke. The shared bathrooms were moldy and dusty. A few simple wipes would help so much and make everything look a little bit cleaner but it seems like that this is too hard. The shared kitchen is locked in the night, so if you depart early, you can not use the kitchen as your items are locked away.

Amazing staff felt comfortable and welcome. Only down side is there were 2 sets of stairs and I still haven’t learned the way of light packing and. So a full suit case and carry on with a backpack meant 2 trips up 2 trips down. Other than that great location everything is walkable or directly across from a bus stop and tram station.

I went on my first solo trip. Had an amazing experience! Friendly staff and volunteers.First of all is this place run very well and by friendly people. Some negative points are mostly because of guests that you can’t avoid. Like snoring neighbours, messy kitchen or dirty bathrooms.KitchenIt has so much stuff in it you might want to use and especially for the common traveler enough to get around with.Fridge was a bit full but still enough space for my own stuff!RoomVery big, but yes with 18 others it does get a bit busy. Had a night light and a power point next to my bed. Perfect sized lockers for small and extra stuff, if I needed extra storage I could use the special location for that.BathroomsClean and never busy, although a lot of people in the hostel it self. Only used one side because it was a perfect side for me. Enough room and perfect temperature.Living areaIn my opinion the best area of the hostel! Social, welcoming and comfortable living room with the reception in it. Which is great to meet new people and have a chat. A lot of activities for a rainy day and some good music playing or live guitar. (Which I started playing here as well, a few of the volunteers helped me with that!)ExtraFriendly vibe and from the few people only talking to their friends or looking on their phones, everybody was in for a talk and a little conversation.

I stayed with The Hostel for the full 15 days allowed per their rules, and I have nothing but amazing things to say. The staff/volunteers were some of the best I've ever interacted with, all incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the accommodations were fantastic. I never spent a moment worried about the cleanliness of my bed/linens, rhe bathrooms, the common areas, or anything else. My time here has ranked among my top hostel stays along my travels, and I would recommend it to anyone and everyone coming to Edinburgh. My favorite part of this hostel experience was the garden area, an open-air part of the hostel where you can enjoy the (rare) Scottish sun. The volunteers would regularly put on events out here, and oftentimes it felt like a party in the late afternoons.Beyond that, the hostel has a FULL kitchen. Two four-top ranges, and two ovens, with all the pots, pans, cutlery, and mugs you could need. The free coffee and tea was a welcome addition as well. The location is also absolutely amazing - you can walk just about anywhere in the city from this location, and have a beautiful view ahead of you.I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here, and can't wait to come back to The Hostel after the next 15 days. Thank you in particular to Lucas and Steph for helping me ensure I stayed within the rules while also helping to accommodate a consistently extended stay. Folks, it may not be as glamorous as the modern 'Party Hostel' but if you turn your nose up at this establishment, you will definitely be missing out. Thanks again to the phenomenal volunteers, Sebastian, Hannah, Zechy, Yuki, Liz, Mac, and so many others who truly made this a memorable experience. Y'all helped me feel welcome, at home, and above-all, safe enough to be myself and do so without apology.Looking forward to coming back someday soon.
