|We were really impressed with the Golf Hotel. This is a traditional and unpretentious coaching inn hundreds of years old. We already knew the food was excellent but staying there proved equally good. …

Went to lunch with friends plus small dog. Had to eat in the bar area & not restaurant because of the dog but this I expect and applaud. Staff polite and efficient and the food excellent . Good menu. We had seafood platter, fish & chips, lasagna & veg burger - all really good portions and the place is clean. We’ll be back!

Popped in for an afternoon refreshment. The barman was polite , friendly and helpful and we were surprised that a pint and a glass of wine was so reasonably priced. It was a beautiful sunny day in the east neck, a rare occurrence, so we sat outside in the beer garden to enjoy the sun. We had planned to eat out so checked out the menu at the golf, or should I say 2 menus. There is a garden menu and a restaurant one, none very exciting but it was convenient and reasonably priced , burgers fish and chips etc on the garden one , steak pie Cullen skink etc on the other. There was a special of monk fish in the restaurant and we asked if we could have it outside but we're told no , only inside. Similarly, you can only have " bought in" puddings outside not homemade, so we had neither. No wonder places go out of business! Initially we were impressed by this place but the inflexibility put us off. Eating from the other menu, outdoors, on a rare sunny day, we would have spent a lot more and recommended. Incidentally the restaurant was completely empty ,the staff standing around doing nothing. Our fish and chips was ok, subsequent drinks (the same order) more expensive.
