I know some of the reviews on this site are a little worrisome but then I noticed they were years old. I wanted to write to say we just left Scotland and although the hotel is older, it was very comfortable. …

Stayed and ate at the restaurant. Room was on the top floor. Very nice but a bit outdated. It was warm the night we stayed there but the room was a reasonable temperature and not too noisy with the windows open. Food was good. Ham hock appetizer was alright. Trout and mussel entree was fantastic.

We enjoyed our stay at the lime tree hotel. Staff is friendly and helpful with our needs. The rooms are very nice and clean. Breakfast was included and very good. Excellent location if taking the Jacobite train, it was maybe a 10-15 minute easy walk to the station. Will be recommending this location.

Don’t be deceived by rather drab exterior and entrance. The restaurant is a revelation. Excellent fresh cooked food locally supplied. Pleasant and knowledgable staff with husband and wife chefs. Food delicious, beautifully cooked and presented. Makes others in Fort William look a bit utilitarian.

This review is so frustrating. Stayed here for two nights. Ate here twice. I so wanted to give the Lime Tree a better review. But mixed feelings. Situated on the main route into Fort William. Easy to find. Parking on site. Easy level access. Friendly greeting. Characterful historic building. Room was clean and tidy and nicely furnished. First evening meal was nice. Service was good. Limited menu but nicely cooked. Breakfast on the first morning was a little less interesting but OK. The cooked food was OK but cheep bread and thin yogurt were amongst the disappointments. What was more frustrating was breakfast on the second morning. The yogurt and fruit salad ran out and the waiting staff said they couldn't replace them until the chef had finished cooking, although we could see that he wasn't cooking anything and other people in the breakfast room had already finished eating. My wife asked for toast as an alternative, which turned up burned and inedible with no apology but a suggestion that if it was inedible we could send it back. My wife didn't send it back, she just didn't eat it. The chef ended up not in the kitchen but in the reception area talking to the receptionist whilst we were still eating, having been told that he was too busy to replenish the things that had run out. Overall it was an OK stay but some staff appeared more committed than others.

Had a great stay at the Lime Tree. The team are friendly and helpful and it’s truly dog friendly - we were given a ground floor room which had a back door, giving easy access in and out for the pooch before bed which was a nice touch. …

We stayed here after getting engaged the day prior and were upgraded to the loft suite at the very top overlooking the loch! It was the most beautiful room and beautiful view! The owners wife was the nicest woman too! I had an amazing stay and look forward to coming back one day! Please stay here! You’ll fall in love too!

the room was beautiful with a view of the loch. Lots of space, even in the bathroom. We had an exquisite dinner in the restaurant. BUT: the minimalistic breakfast was really pathetic, as other reviews have already criticized, burnt pastries, empty fruit bowls, etc. Why? Your service and the chef were so good the night before!!On the day of departure, no shower possible as there was hardly any water pressure due to construction work; annoying. You could be so much better!!!

Booked dinner for my wife's 50th. Our table was next to a dirty stained wall in a too brightly lit dining room. My side plate also had dirty black marks which I was able to rub off with my finger. Would be great if the staff checked the plates were clean before they placed them on the tables. There was a fruit fly constantly hovering around us. That was irritating. We had the pidgeon starter (v small, bland, cold), ribeye steak and chips, and beef cheek. I was expecting something high end - its supposed to be fine dining after all. The steak was well cooked but essentially basic pub standard with a thin sauce. The beef cheek was shredded and pressed into some sort of mold and served with overcooked carrots and broccoli and some sort of bog standard gravy. Not bistro, but may as well have been. Would not recommend, especially at the price. I can cook better.

Exceptional! This hotel has the feel of an Inn or Bed and Breakfast. Maybe a dozen rooms. The staff is most hospitable and friendly. We only stayed 1 night passing through but would love to visit again and stay longer. We had a rather large bathroom and a very comfy bed. Very cozy place. Before dinner we had drinks in the lounge and after dinner (we booked reservations too late to eat at the Silly Goose Restaurant inside Lime), we came back for dessert (and more drinks) in the lounge as well.Location is perfect. After our 4 hour train ride from Edinburgh, we walked the 13 minutes to the hotel with our carryon sized luggage and took in the views of the quaint town of Fort William. Local bus runs nearby as well.
