After a lovely walk along the beach, we had lunch at the Black Horse. The service was exceptional. All of the staff were extremely friendly and efficient I ordered the fish pie and was told that they didn't have any but the barman asked in the kitchen and they made one for me. It was very good and the vegetables were perfect. My friend had the tofu with rice noodles and she said that was excellent. It's definitely somewhere I would go back to if I was in the area. I liked that the toilets were individual cubicles and the entire pub seemed to be very clean and it's great that they allow dogs in too. An extremely pleasant experience

We visited this pub on a circular walk from rope walk in Littlehampton. This pub has changed over the years with each new owner trying to make a go of it, the latest incarnation is a gastro pub.The food is very nice, good options and a delightful conservatory area for diners to enjoy. Toilets are clean which is always a good sign, and there is outside benches if the sun shines. The bar is traditional with wooden floors so fine for the dog, and the staff are friendly enough. Will visit again but save your pennies as food is on the pricier side, which fits in with the local hotel. Worth a visit.

Great food with friendly and attentive service.A couple of excellent vegan starters and mains and also plenty of options for the carnivores. The food is excellent, uncomplicated, and has lovely details; burgers are topped with onion rings. Sundays roasts have nice additions to the standard veggies like cauliflower cheese. Dogs are welcome, too, and the outdoor seating is rural and pleasant. The car park is small, but there's an overflow option between 50 and 100 metres further along the road.We are rapidly becoming regular visitors. Recommend booking if you want to eat although food is available at the bar as well as in the restaurant.

We were there for Sunday roast! What a disappointment really!Roast without flavour gravy isn't really a roast. İt was bland and no texture to it. Creamy cauliflower served in Sunday roast with gravy made the texture worse. I never understood why don't they serve cheesy cauliflower separately! Apart from roast potatoes nothing in my plate was tasty today! Sorry...Nice decoration...Attentive, friendly staff...Clean table& chair...

I was taken here for dinner last week and we both had fish pie. Well, it was billed as fish pie but the only fish found were the 3 whitebait stuck in the top. Otherwise maybe 2 flakes of salmon and that was that, no other fish present.. The bechamel sauce could have had fish stock but was overwhelmingly salty. The cheese mash topping with yet more salt overtook the 'fish'. A disaster. Our companion had an aubergine salad which was served swimming in a tasteless oily dressing. It was returned a quarter eaten.Apparently, we were told, that chef was 'Michelin trained' at the sister hotel, Bailiffscourt, around the corner. Really, not on these results. The restaurant is a lovely new built space. The pub has been extensively refurbished and is pleasant. The staff were pleasant. However the food..............p.s. take great care when turning off the A259, there's no lighting and it's very busy. Look out for the signs.

Lovely cosy Sunday pub lunch. Great roasts wowed our table. Very attentive staff couldn't do enough to make us comfortable and help despite it being almost the end of service. Will go again.

Our stay was so enjoyable. The staff, in their unique way, were solicitous of our well-being (we’re old!) without being patronising or obsequious. We liked it so much we’re going again in September!PS Our two well-behaved little dogs were welcomed too.Chris and Ron Thorpe
