We really enjoyed our stay. The staff were very friendly and even allowed us to check in early as we were attending a wedding that day. This really meant a lot to us and made the day so much easier! The room was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was amazing, and the bar/restaurant was impressive.The only thing I will say is the upstairs is a bit dated, the corridors etc look a bit tired. But that didn't make a difference to our stay at all, really couldn't fault it. Great place and would highly recommend.

Room was great, but the food was so poor I returned my main and declined another option to save the embarrassment of having to return it. Breakfast was better, but not much. I've never had a mushroom so dehydrated you could snap it. Sadly, where the food is concerned this is another case of the menu creating great anticipation and spectacularly failing to deliver. And the beer was off. I'd recommend the rooms but make sure you eat elsewhere.

We stayed here for two nights, it was a fairly pleasant stay , there were only a couple of issues that let it down from being a perfect 5 , nothing that can’t be fixed pretty quickly. One was my fault , in that I didn’t check whether the hotel had air conditioning which it didn’t, so made the hotel rooms a bit stuffy as it was mid twenties outside. Room 5 was far too small to be a double room ,just because you can fit a double bed in the room shouldn’t make it a double room , it would make a nice single room . The food was great , we had a lunch , a dinner and a breakfast within our stay , all of which were tasty, generous, delicious, hot and reasonably priced. The only thing that let the dinning down was the service . There wasn’t many customers to serve yet it took an eternity to clear our table and anyone else’s table . The service didn’t match the level of food being served. This is an easy fix though , just get the bar staff to pay more attention and stop looking at there phones or laptop , priority is your customers when you’re open not your stock or back house software. The staff were very friendly though .

What can I say, checked in and checked right back out...the whole experience was one of the worst ever.On arrival after a 7 hour drive the 2 girls behind the bar both went 'we can't check you in'...someone then appeared after about 5 …

Nice rooms, price point was exceptional value. Amy, the manager, was very friendly and welcoming. We dined in the restaurant very fairly priced. The breakfast witch was included was fabulous. Overall, it was a good experience

We had a great stay at the Hand & Sceptre, the staff were really helpful, friendly and attentive, the food was brilliant so well done chief and the service was quick.The only thing I would say was that in our room some wall paper was coming off so maybe a bit of a refresh and it looked like there were some water marks on the wall in the bar but honestly that would not put us off coming back as I would still rate it 10 out of 10, so we'll done all.

I have eaten at the restaurant on two occasions. Wonderful experience both times. When looking for an hotel booking.com offered this suggestion and I quickly booked. ||||Very reasonably priced.||||Excellent service and lovely clean room.||||Staff all amazing and professional. ||||I will stay here whenever in town.

On 5th May also had 3 other rooms for my duaghters and their families. The family rooms were very spacious.The staff were fantastic - very professional and very friendly and helpful.The location/car parking and quality of the hotel was good.The food was very good and a fairly wide menu.

Nice staff, good food, liked the terrace area and good parking. Comfortable mattress, good shower. Bedroom and bathroom very small, lots of road noise, pillows poor. Good selection wine by the glass, poor choice of ales on the pumps
