Grilled Tofu with Cilantro Lime Marinade

Ingredients Required
-
1 (14 ounce) package firm tofu
-
¼ cup lime juice
-
1 tablespoon olive oil
-
5 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
-
2 cloves garlic, minced
-
2 teaspoons chili powder
-
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
-
salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions
-
Place the tofu block on a plate, and top with another plate. Add a 3 to 5-pound weight (a water-filled container works well) to press the tofu for 20 to 30 minutes. Drain and discard the liquid. Slice the tofu into 4 thick slabs lengthwise, or cut into cubes and thread onto skewers. Arrange the tofu pieces or skewers on a plate.
-
In a bowl, whisk together lime juice, olive oil, cilantro, garlic, chili powder, cayenne, salt, and black pepper. Brush the tofu with the marinade, then cover and refrigerate to marinate for 2 hours, or overnight for more flavor.
-
Preheat an outdoor grill to medium heat and lightly oil the grate. Grill the tofu for 10 to 15 minutes, turning occasionally and brushing with the marinade, until the tofu is almost blackened in spots.
