Mom's Easy Dumplings
Ingredients List
-
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
-
2 teaspoons baking powder
-
¾ teaspoon salt
-
3 tablespoons shortening or butter
-
¾ cup milk
Instructions
-
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in the shortening using a knife or pastry cutter until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in the milk until just combined; the dough will be lumpy, so don’t overwork it.
-
Drop spoonfuls of the dough onto a simmering stew. The dumplings should rest on top of the vegetables and meat, and it’s fine if they stick out slightly. Let them cook uncovered for 10 minutes, then cover and cook for an additional 10 minutes.
