A New Year Brimming With New Travel Possibilities

As the owner of a travel media company, I’m lucky to collaborate with a talented team, share incredible stories, and connect with people who provide me with endless ideas for future adventures. The only dilemma: making a choice.

One of my go-to sources for inspiration is Dinogo’s annual Where to Go list. Our editorial team gathers recommendations from writers, reporters, and correspondents worldwide about the top destinations for our travelers to explore in the upcoming year. They sift through these suggestions to identify places that seem ready for 'a moment,' whether it’s a new cultural venue, park, or culinary experience.

I recently returned from a cycling journey on eastern Canada’s Prince Edward Island (PEI). My trip was inspired by an early look at this year’s Where to Go list (another perk of being a cofounder of Dinogo!). In August 2021, PEI unveiled the Island Walk, a 435-mile path that wraps around this crescent-shaped province. I appreciate that a destination would create such a trail, reflecting their desire for visitors to experience 'the Island'—as locals refer to it—slowly, intimately, and up close.

Over three days, I cycled about 100 miles through the central part of the Island, beginning in the capital, Charlottetown. Covering 2,195 square miles, PEI is the smallest of Canada’s 13 provinces and territories, yet it is also the most densely populated. However, as a resident of San Francisco and New York City, it certainly didn’t feel crowded to me. The ride offered picturesque views, family-run farms, and stunning coastlines. The locals were friendly, and the seafood was outstanding. The lobster roll at Original Richard’s, a fish shack just off the beach near Prince Edward Island National Park, was the best I’ve ever tasted. That alone made the trip worthwhile.
