American Airlines is implementing a variety of adjustments to its domestic operations.
The Fort Worth-based airline recently submitted plans to launch four new routes and discontinue two, first reported in Cirium schedules and later verified by an airline representative.
Initially, the airline is expanding at one of its newest stations: Hyannis, Massachusetts, adding summer seasonal flights from Chicago and Philadelphia.
Starting June 19, 2025, the airline will introduce daily service from Philadelphia, followed by Saturday-only flights from Chicago beginning June 21. Both routes will be serviced by American Eagle partner Envoy Air using an Embraer E175 regional jet.

Alongside increased flights to Cape Cod, the airline will introduce two new temporary routes for the spring break period. It will connect Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Springfield, Missouri, to Miami from February 15, 2025, to March 29, 2025.

Both routes will run solely on Saturdays during the busy spring break season, though there’s a chance they could be extended if demand is strong enough. Since American hasn't previously offered these flights, they might encourage travelers to visit South Florida with the new nonstop connection.
However, not all news is positive for American's network. The airline has confirmed to TPG that it is withdrawing from two seasonal markets immediately, including routes from Charlotte to Spokane, Washington, and Chicago to Reno, Nevada. These routes were last offered as summer seasonal services and did not perform well enough to continue into another season.
Among all the changes, the expansions in Hyannis stand out as particularly intriguing. This is due to the airline having introduced service to Cape Cod Gateway Airport (HYA) last summer with daily flights from New York City's LaGuardia Airport (DCA) and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) near Washington, D.C.
Hyannis, located on the Cape Cod peninsula, is a favored seasonal spot for summer travelers eager to enjoy the region's finest beaches.
As the sole global network airline serving Hyannis, American offers travelers even more connecting options to reach Cape Cod from numerous destinations worldwide.
It will be interesting to observe how the new routes from Chicago and Philadelphia perform. Prior to American's entry, JetBlue held a long-standing monopoly at this outstation with seasonal flights to New York, while regional carrier Cape Air also operates to Hyannis from several Northeast airports.
