Update from the editor: This article has been revised with the latest information.

Confirmed: Spain has reopened its doors to American tourists, and starting June 28, there's no need for Americans to show proof of vaccination or testing.
On Monday, June 7, Spain welcomed travelers from the U.S. and various other countries to jumpstart its summer tourism season.
As of June 28, 2021, U.S. travelers are not required to present proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test, as the U.S. is no longer classified as a risk area, according to the Spanish Government. According to the U.S. Embassy & Consulate in Spain and Andorra, this applies to all American citizens traveling from the U.S., including those transiting through other countries. The U.S. Government has noted that these regulations may change at short notice, so it's advisable to verify this information prior to your travel date.
Passengers arriving from high-risk countries are still mandated to provide a negative Active Infection Diagnostic Test (AIDT) or PCR test taken within 72 hours before arrival.
All travelers heading to Spain are required to complete the Spain Travel Health (SpTH) form at least 48 hours before their flight to the country.
Spain has announced that the EU Digital COVID Certificate will be accepted for arrivals from other EU nations. The EU Digital COVID Certificate scheme, previously known as "green passports", was launched on June 2. Several countries, including Greece, Germany, and Poland, have already provided the digital pass to their citizens. All EU countries are anticipated to offer the EU Digital COVID Certificate by July 1.
Minister of Health Carolina Darias stated, "Spain is a secure destination and we are poised to reclaim our status as a leader in global tourism very soon."
Initially, there was considerable uncertainty about whether Spain would reopen on the scheduled date of June 7. However, this confusion was later resolved by the Ministry of Health, and Spain opened as planned.
Visitors from the U.K., which is Spain's largest market for tourists, are already preparing for summer trips. Since the U.K. is not deemed a high-risk area, travelers do not need to provide proof of vaccination or a negative test result. Nonetheless, Spain is still on the amber list of the U.K.'s traffic light system, meaning travelers to Spain must quarantine for 10 days upon their return to the U.K.
Reviving its tourism sector is vital for Spain's economic stability, with tourism contributing approximately 12% to the nation's GDP.
