Dinogo Readers' Top 5 Favorite Hotels in Tokyo for 2024
This year's best hotels in Tokyo emphasize prime locations. Each of our readers' preferred hotels provides convenient access to some of the city’s most visited attractions: three of the top five are within walking distance of each other and are just a short walk from both Tokyo Station and the numerous parks and cultural venues surrounding the Imperial Palace. Additionally, two winners are situated close to historical landmarks and modern developments. The Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo, claimed the top spot.
Understanding the Voting Process
In our annual World's Best Awards survey, T+L invites readers to share their travel experiences globally — offering their insights on the best hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. This year, over 186,000 T+L readers participated in the 2024 survey, casting more than 700,000 votes across 8,700+ properties (including hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.).
Hotels were categorized as resort hotels, city hotels, inns, or safari lodges based on their location and amenities, and they were evaluated according to the criteria listed below:
- Room quality and amenities
- Location
- Customer service
- Culinary options
- Overall value
For each aspect, participants could rate it as excellent, above average, average, below average, or poor. The final ratings are calculated as averages of these selections.
Highlights from Readers
As Japan resumes its tourism activities post-pandemic, visitors to this global city are increasingly relying on well-known international brands. Survey participants expressed their appreciation for attentive service, diverse food and beverage choices, comprehensive wellness amenities, and the other luxuries that come with a well-established name. Among these is the Four Seasons, which debuted the No. 4 Four Seasons Hotel Tokyo at Otemachi in 2020, making it a relatively new option for many travelers. One respondent particularly praised the hotel’s culinary and spa services, hallmark offerings of the Four Seasons, and described the venue as “a fantastic uptown hotel soaring above Tokyo.”
Interestingly, the notion of being “soaring above Tokyo” is a common theme. The top hotels for 2024, as in previous years, are primarily high-rise, featuring elevated suites that overlook a city of nearly 40 million residents. This high-rise trend marks a shift for the brand associated with this year’s No. 5 hotel, Aman Tokyo, which originally built its reputation on secluded luxury retreats — now boasting a 26,900-square-foot spa situated high above the city.
The Champion
Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo

After its renovation in 2019, the Mandarin Oriental, Tokyo made a stunning return to this year’s rankings, with survey respondents praising the exceptional service, spa, and particularly the dining options: Guests can choose from at least seven restaurants for a sit-down dinner, featuring renowned sushi, molecular gastronomy, and even a pizza place nestled on the 38th floor. In a year where high-rise hotels dominated, this No. 1 property offers the most breathtaking views of all; one reader noted: “Our room overlooked the city and Tokyo Tower, allowing us to enjoy spectacular sunrises.” They added, “We even caught a glimpse of Mt. Fuji on our final morning.”
