Experience a 1.8 million-gallon aquarium at this Hawaii resort, where you can swim alongside marine biologists.
The Four Seasons Resort Hualalai on the Kona-Kohala coast of Hawaii invites you to witness incredible marine life without needing to dive into the ocean.
In early 2021, the resort began a multi-million dollar renovation, enhancing guest accommodations and public areas. This included the launch of the Kumu Kai Marine Center at King's Pond, where guests can immerse themselves in a 1.8 million-gallon swimmable aquarium, participating in unique experiences led by on-site marine biologists.
Charlie Parker, the hotel's general manager, explained, "We crafted the new experience at King's Pond to merge marine education with interactive offerings and relaxation." This initiative was developed with marine biologist David Chai. "We aim for guests to explore the distinct features of King's Pond while enjoying breathtaking views and specially curated menus by the poolside."
King's Pond was conceived with marine preservation and education in mind. Carved into lava rock, it hosts 1,000 tropical fish, cared for by Chai and his dedicated team of six marine biologists.

Guests can also participate in activities like private eagle ray feedings, fish derbies, tide pool tours, and special programs for kids, including the Jr. Marine Biologist Experience and "Turtles and Tales."

Just jumping into the water and watching an eagle ray approach you is unique. Now, there are even more chances to disconnect from stress and relax. I mean, where else can you find a swimming pool next to a one-and-a-half-million-gallon aquarium pond?"
In addition to the new offerings at the pond, the resort's executive chef, Richard Polhemus, has crafted a gourmet poolside menu featuring top sustainable and local ingredients. Yes, fish are included, but don’t worry; it’s not the same fish as your new aquatic friends in the pond, we promise. Experience it for yourself and book a reservation today.
