The tasting room at Breckenridge Distillery offers a laid-back vibe, perfect for sampling their award-winning spirits after a day of local adventures. A summer favorite is the Après Summer, a seltzer crafted with Breckenridge Gin. While enjoying a drink at the bar, you might overhear tales of zip-lining thrills, liquid courage for whitewater rafting, or even spotting a moose from the BreckConnect Gondola.

Regardless of the season, the staff warmly welcomes guests, whether they arrive in biking attire, hiking gear, or ski boots. "With delightful food, inventive cocktails, games, vibrant art, live music, a stunning patio, and educational classes, this is the perfect venue to enjoy with family and friends and even meet new ones," she explains. One of the crowd favorites is the Bronco Billie, made with Breckenridge Bourbon Broncos Blend and unique ingredients like nutmeg shell and peach tea. Founder Bryan Nolt enjoys "two fingers of Breck Bourbon topped with another finger of Breck Bourbon or Billie’s renowned Obi Wan Old Fashioned."

Inspired by his trip to Scotland, Nolt discovered the essence of the Breckenridge highlands. The local water, combined with the altitude, yields remarkable aromas and flavors, described by the founder as a "syrupy sweetness with hints of graham cracker" that enthusiasts enjoy, even at 138 proof. The effort to distill at 9,600 feet is worthwhile, as Nolt emphasizes, "Our water is sourced from snow melting off the continental divide and filtering through the mountains. Its purity, high mineral content, and low iron levels harmonize beautifully with ethanol, providing a mouthfeel that's truly unmatched."

With abundant snowfall, there are endless opportunities for thrilling adventures. "From snowshoeing and Nordic skiing to mountain biking and hiking, you can step out of most lodges and dive straight into the backcountry," shares Unruh, highlighting the easy access to trails and mountain activities. Keithley’s cocktail creations reflect this adventurous spirit as well. She describes her approach as incorporating "seasonal ingredients, non-alcoholic options, lighter alcohol, savory notes, layered flavors, textures, smoke, suds, bubbles, fire, and even a touch of Star Wars." Unruh also notes that distillery tours provide lively experiences where visitors can see and smell whiskey being crafted, all while surrounded by barrels and reclaimed wood.

Like in many destinations, the best Breckenridge insights often come from locals. "We all live here for the lifestyle," Unruh expresses. "We want everyone to enjoy this place as much as we do, as tourism is vital to our community's heart."

During the summer, she frequents McCullough Gulch, an intermediate hike offering stunning panoramic views and cascading waterfalls. She also loves mountain biking on the extensive network of singletrack trails. "I always end the day with a delicious handcrafted cocktail or a cold beer to toast the adventure," she shares. In winter, her days are spent snowboarding, and on special nights, she relaxes at 11,360 feet in Francie’s Cabin or another Summit Hut, part of a network of cozy backcountry cabins.

Whether in summer or winter, the spirit of Breckenridge resonates in its cocktails. Keithley notes that her drinks are inspired by the "river, mountains, and everything in between," capturing the true essence of both Breckenridge and the distillery.
