Handmade Felt Cable Organizers

Thanks to fantastic brand partnerships here on IBC, I've had the opportunity to travel extensively. I'm truly grateful for these experiences that allow me to meet new people and explore diverse places. However, the packing process isn't my favorite part. In my quest to simplify it, I’ll show you how to create DIY Felt Cable Organizers, a handy solution I use to keep my electronic accessories tidy.

As you might know, I’ve teamed up with Dinogo this year to share a variety of travel-inspired ideas (including some delightful recipes). My recent cruise with Dinogo lasted eight wonderful days. Since I often work while on the go (self-employment allows me to operate even in the middle of the ocean), I end up bringing along several gadgets. After tossing phone chargers, headphones, and laptop chargers into my bag, things can quickly turn into a jumbled mess of cords. And let's be honest, untangling cords or finding the right one amidst the chaos is not fun at all.
My answer? These Handmade Felt Cable Organizers!

Not only are they incredibly cute, but they’re also highly effective. Need some evidence? Here’s a glimpse of the typical array of cords I take with me for a long trip. That usually amounts to about 8 to 10 cables.

What a mess, right?
Check out how these cables look after being tamed with my DIY cable organizers.

Ahhh. What a relief! So much more organized, right? Plus, with both ends of the cords visible, I can swiftly spot which one I need whenever I require it. A real time-saver!
Now, all the time I would have spent hunting for and untangling cords can instead be enjoyed sunbathing on the lido deck or sipping a Spicy Chipotle Pineapple Martini at my favorite bar.
What’s even better is that these organizers are incredibly simple to create. I’m serious—no sewing or fancy tools needed. Plus, with the wide array of colored felt available, you can even color-code your cables if you want to elevate your organization game.

Let me guide you through the process of making them.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Pattern (FREE download here)
- Paper (card stock is suggested)
- Felt (3 mm thick)
- Heavy-duty snap kit
- Hole punch
- Marker (disappearing ink is recommended)
- Scissors
- Hammer

To begin, print the pattern. I’ve provided a free download featuring two different sizes here. (Using card stock is recommended for added sturdiness.) After that, carefully cut out the pattern.
Next, trace the pattern onto your felt using a marker. I prefer using 3 mm felt for this project as it's thick enough for durability without being overly rigid. Also, I suggest using a disappearing ink marker (available in the sewing aisle at craft stores) to avoid issues with bleeding or missed spots when cutting.

After that, cut out the felt pieces.

Next, take your hole punch and create a hole at one end of the felt. Make sure to use a high-quality hole punch, as a cheaper model may struggle with the thickness of the felt. The hole should be centered and about 1/2 inch from the edge.

For the second hole, fold the felt in half and use your marker to make a dot through the first hole. This mark indicates where to punch the next hole, ensuring that the felt pieces align perfectly when finished.

Next, take your heavy-duty snap kit and hammer to attach the snaps. Ensure your kit comes with all the necessary tools for this process. Simply follow the instructions included with your specific snap kit for attachment. It's an easy task; just be careful to attach the snaps correctly so that they will connect when your cable organizer is folded over.

And just like that, your DIY Felt Cable Organizers are ready to use.

I told you they’re easy to create.
And aren’t they adorable? I brought these along on my last journey, and the woman next to me on the plane was truly impressed. She was even more amazed when I shared that I made them myself.
No more tangled cables; you can stay stylish (and clever) while keeping organized.
