New York City adds 19 new Michelin-starred restaurants to its culinary scene

On Thursday, New York's top dining establishments were celebrated with the release of the 2022 Michelin star rankings.
The number of Michelin-starred restaurants in New York City has risen by 19.
Among the newcomers, Al Coro and Saga earned their Michelin debut, each receiving two stars, a recognition for 'outstanding cuisine, worth a detour.'
Al Coro, led by Chef Melissa Rodriguez, offers regional Italian dishes with a creative twist, according to the restaurant's website.
"Overwhelmed, surprised, and grateful," Al Coro shared on Instagram Thursday evening after earning its two Michelin stars.
The venue is stunning, but Michelin noted, "Chef James Kent ensures that his cuisine always shines, never allowing the setting to take center stage." Together with his skilled team, he delivers dishes that blend luxury, seasonality, and cosmopolitan flair.
In total, 73 restaurants were awarded Michelin stars in the 2022 New York guide, solidifying their place in the city's prestigious dining scene.
"New York's food scene is definitely on the rise, expanding rapidly and offering increasingly innovative experiences, ready to face new challenges and reach even greater heights," said Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guides, in a statement.
Five restaurants retained their three-star status for "exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey": Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare, Eleven Madison Park, Le Bernardin, Masa, and Per Se.
The 2022 Michelin guide includes five three-star restaurants, 13 two-star establishments, and 55 one-star restaurants, as well as 125 spots with the "Bib Gourmand" designation – for excellent food at reasonable prices – and 267 other recommended venues.
