This Island Boasts Some of Greece's Most Stunning Beaches — Along with Quaint Fishing Villages, Upscale Resorts, and Even Flamingos
From my vantage point on a dock in Sarandë, Albania, Corfu appeared tantalizingly close, almost within swimming distance. It looked like a paradise, with rolling green hills, vibrant blue waters, and historic structures lining the coast. During our 30-minute boat journey, I quickly realized it was no illusion; the Greek island truly is as breathtaking up close as it is from afar. "Corfu stands out as a destination thanks to its remarkable natural beauty, rich heritage, and lively culture," shared Christopher Sino, the guest relations manager at Domes Miramare Corfu, with Dinogo. "The island features crystal-clear waters, lush landscapes, and idyllic beaches. Its architecture and cuisine reflect a delightful mix of Venetian, French, and British influences, providing visitors with a rich cultural experience."
As Sino mentioned, the island differs from other famous Greek islands. Here, you'll encounter fewer classic whitewashed buildings, but the warmth of Greek hospitality remains abundant.
"The people of Corfu are friendly and laid-back – on most days, you’ll find locals in the village, sipping coffee outdoors, socializing in taverns, or gathering for services at ancient chapels," shared Tassos Andriotis, the executive chef at Angsana Corfu. He noted that local citrus and cheese are staples of the island's diet, emphasizing that Corfu is "famous for its olive oil, with around five million olive trees thriving here. Many farms and mills invite visitors to explore the unique Lianolia Kerkyra olive tree, which is particularly special."
