You Can Now Reserve a Stay at Shrek’s Swamp on Airbnb

For 22 years, Shrek’s swamp has served as the setting for magical adventures, humorous antics, endless fart jokes, and more than one unexpected love story. It’s part of a cultural phenomenon that has given rise to four animated films, numerous TV specials, and a Broadway musical—and the franchise continues to be highly quotable even after two decades.

“What are you doing in my swamp?” the ogre famously roars in the first film, where his entire quest is to evict a horde of squatters from his muddy sanctuary. Ironically, a new batch of squatters is about to get the chance to move in—for free.

Airbnb has just revealed that for two nights only, up to three guests can book a stay in an authentic replica of Shrek’s tree stump in the secluded Fairytale Forest (also known as the Scottish Highlands), at no cost.

“Ogre fans can find tranquility while watching the leaves fall in this muddy, mossy, murky oasis known as Shrek’s Swamp,” reads the property listing inspired by the beloved 2001 film. The listing also mentions that the “host” is Donkey, Shrek’s faithful companion, who will be watching over the place while the ogre is away.

Within the stump studio, you’ll find a bed, a dining area (complete with an ear-wax candle on the table), and a cozy fireplace. Roots stretch through the ceiling, and the floor is made of dirt. There’s no kitchen (but Donkey will be whipping up waffles in the morning!), and an upgraded outhouse is conveniently located nearby.

In recent years, Airbnb has launched a variety of promotional stays inspired by popular films and shows. Recent highlights include a five-night stay in the original mansion from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, a weekend at The Royal Tenenbaums house, a night in the English pub featured in Ted Lasso, and a night in Barbie’s Malibu DreamHouse, among others.

The two-night booking opens on October 13 at 6 p.m. British Summer Time (1 p.m. Eastern Time), offering the exclusive opportunity to stay in the swamp from October 27 to 29. The stay itself is complimentary, but guests must arrange their own travel to and from Scotland.
