This surf retreat is like no other. After being shown around Ngalung Kalla, I felt quite uncomfortable, it being almost spiritual in its purity, and such a far cry from my city life. Though quickly I settled into the realities of Ngalung Kalla's calm flow, its awe inspiring surf location, its elevated vitality and its focus on natural, locally grown foods. Christian and Ka'ale, Ngalung Kalla's founders, have created and crafted an environment reflecting their water born energies, their nature-first beliefs, plus their genuine warmth and kindness; all of these things they so easily share with their guests—surfing legends, or not so (as in my case). After our week of incredible surf, wonderful food, and inspiring hospitality—morning, noon and night—I cannot speak highly enough of Ngalung Kalla, of its inspirational and talented team, and for lighting a natural path for life.

Ngalung Kalla is truly a special place in the world. We could have stayed here for 3 weeks and never be bored. One week was not enough! If you want to adventure, there are plenty of adventures: surfing, mountain biking, fishing, foiling, and more…. if you want to just relax you can easily relax with beautiful surroundings, laying in the hammock , yoga, swims, Sunsets, the best massage, and more. The people here are what also make it so unique. Everyone is kind, loving, and you can feel the positive energy from the owners and the staff. Also, the food is amazing. We went to a different resort afterward and not only missed ngalung Kalla but we missed the food as well. They grow all the food , it is so fresh and healthy. We were on cloud nine at ngalung Kalla. We plan to come back every year! Sumba is very special and needs more people like Christian and Ka’ale

We had the most beautiful stay at Ngalung Kala! It truly is such a retreat, tucked away from the business of the world. It is surely one of the best ways to experience Sumba. Food and service were also very great. Would recommend to all :)

Our stay at Ngalung Kalla was one of the best experiences our family has had in Indonesia. This is the perfect sanctuary to escape daily life, embark on exciting adventures, or relax with delicious, locally sourced meals in a peaceful environment. Could not have asked for a better spot to explore the island of Sumba than Ngalung Kalla! Stunning views, beautiful bungalows, excellent food and a team that was truly outstanding. From gracious hosts Christian and Kaale to Colleen, Charlotte, Giorgio and the rest of the team, we instantly felt at home and at ease. With plenty of activities for the whole family, from surfing to snorkeling to exploring jungle waterfalls, you will not be bored at Ngalung! Look forward to visiting again!

My wife and I had an incredible time at Ngalung Kalla. The position is remote, but perfectly suited to people who surf, fish, snorkel, enjoy yoga and also know how to relax.The Ngalung Kalla staff made sure we had plenty of options for activity, and plenty of space to cruise. Outstanding food - all super fresh, and locally grown/caught. Sumba is completely off the tourism trail, and fun to explore on a motorbike. We will be back for sure!
