We had such an amazing time at Hotel Orangutan! The jungle view from our balcony was stunning, rooms were very spacious and clean.The staff were friendly and helpful, especially Monang, who made our jungle trek an unforgettable experience. His knowledge and kindness really stood out to us. We all exchanged stories and shared dinner together in the campsite and that was a highlight for us in itself.We would 100% come back here and we can’t wait to do so!! Thanks for everything guys 😀 x

Hire the trekking at the hotel itself, it costs 10. The journey takes a lot of work. And if or if you take the Rafting back. Bring a waterproof case for your cell phone, because the views are amazing.

Being at Bukit Lawang,especially in Hotel Orangutan was an unforgettable experience. They welcomed us like their family.Raja was our guide to do the trekking, he transmits serenity and all his knowledge about the jungle to you. We couldn't have had a better guide.We were very lucky to see orangutans as well as various species of monkeys, reptiles, birds...Definitely, hotel and staff 10/10.Terimah kasi!

Fantastic place on earth and just beautiful place to stay. The jungle trek is a must and also great to spend the night in the jungle. Sounds are overwhelming. Nice guides who make it a party.

We were guests at the Hotel Orang Utan in August 2023 including the jungle tour with an overnight stay with Yoshia and Jerry. Looking back, the tour was a huge highlight of our trip around the world and we were able to admire so many animals in nature. We can highly recommend the tour.

We had a wonderful stay here! Great location, gorgeous views, very friendly staff, delicious breakfast. Thank you for all the memories!!Highlight of our trip was the trek with Helmi (Mogli!) He was awesome! We saw Thomas Leaf monkeys, a Pig Tailed monkey, white handed Gibbon, peacocks, a turtle, and of course ORANGUTANS!! Absolutely incredible, one of the coolest experiences of my life! Perfect amount of distance and time, we loved the rafting experience at the end. Thanks again!!

Our stay at Hotel Orangutan and visit to Bukit Lawang was the highlight of our trip and one of my favorite places I have ever visited. First, our trekking guides Amin and Holland were exceptional and our experience seeing the orangutans was magical.Abdoullah, our driver was also excellent. Easy to communicate with, an excellent driver, and a very pleasant, interesting man.Staff at the Hotel Orangutan, including Vyca, were very pleasant, good fun, and helpful. Everything was very well organized.Anastasia, who helped organize our trip was excellent- considering our flights, dates and plans changed 3 times!Bukit Lawang is so charming. We had great food, many monkeys, and music in resturants every night. The people were so nice. I cannot recommend a trip to Bukit Lawang and Hotel Orangutan enough.

Great value and a workout! Not quite as "in the jungle" you would think, BUT in the town so convenient and the top suites are up 130 extra large steps so you've earned the view at the top. Most of the meals were well priced and tasty, and the experience of our stay highlighted by the friendly and helpful staff. Not always hot water, power goes out occasionally...but this is part of living on the edge of a jungle.

Overall positive stay at Hotel Orangutan. I love that they are a social enterprise that provide free water in the room to reduce their plastic waste. Staff were friendly and we enjoyed the restaurant. Everyone coming to Bukit Lawang should be aware that the long tailed macaques are a bit of a menace and can be aggressive, but that's not to take anything away from this hotel. Getting heavy bags in and out of the village is a bit of a logistical challenge as well due to the lack of drivable roads and numerous steps; it might be worth paying for the private airport transfer if you aren't travelling very light. I stayed in the cave room which had a unique bathroom design - fun for the first night but didn't give me a great sense of cleanliness and had plenty of ant and slug visitors. Finally, it is across the river from Thomas's Retreat which holds very, very loud live music every Saturday until 3AM or later. I did think the room was a very good value nevertheless and would recommend it for shorter stays and/or with the caveat that it comes with the inconveniences of a rustic place in the jungle.
