Green Hill Guest House & Eco Trekking.

I can't say enough great things about the 2 day luxury Trek and Green Hill. Firstly, if you are looking to trek to spot wildlife and orangutan, please, please choose this company. They genuinely are there to conserve the area and orangutan when some trekking companies do not follow the park rules and this endangers the lives of the creates you want to see by leaving food scraps around and feeding them which can transmit diseases.In this trek we went to the stunning untouched Sumatran Jungle, no tracks just you and the guides trekking through. The scenery, waterfalls and incredible jungle creatures were something I'll never forget. Beautiful. The Eco lodge had the most stunning views, and a great retreat after the day. The second day trek from Bukit Lawang we saw many Thomas Leaf Monkeys, Long tail Macquees, Orangutan and even a jungle turtle, but the jungle of day one was more pristine. The white water rating at the end was so much fun and also a highlight!! But special mention for the food which was absolutely delicious!! They catered to vegans perfectly with the best good I had in Indonesia, fresh fruit and nasi goreng on treks and an absolute feast for dinner with delicious curries, tempeh, veggies - couldn't want more!! The food at Green Hill Lodge itself (which is all vegetarian) was also so tasty and the lodge rooms has brilliant jungle vibes and monkeys on your balcony the mornings!! Choose Green Hill, you won't regret it, and to the owner Andrea, thank you so much for taking care of the jungle and the animals, much respect to you.

We did the two day trek and it was great! On day one of the trek, we didn’t see any other tourists and went deep into the jungle, hearing lots of amazing wildlife sounds. We spent the night in the Ecolodge, in Kuta Langus, which was really remote and we had an incredible view of the jungle. The staff were super friendly and very knowledgeable and the chef was amazing! On day 2, we trekked the jungle in Bukit Lawang, where we saw lots of wildlife (orangutans, thomas langur & long tail macaque). This day also included rafting which was so much fun!Andrea was really helpful and quick at booking everything for us, via whatsapp and our stay at Green Hill either side of the trek was really comfortable and welcoming.Booking with Green Hill is 100% a must if you are coning to Bukit Lawang! They offer other options for treks and they all sound spectacular! (Just remember long trousers to avoid leeches!)

We did the Welcome to the Jungle package and it was fantastic. The transfer was waiting for us at the airport. The location of the gusthouse in Bukit Lawang is great and the people they’re really friendly. The next day we went for a two day jungle trek in a not so turistic area with a really experienced guide who told us a lot of things. The food and the campsite were fantastic.

Simply perfect!!! Beautiful place and even more staff!! Andrea, who is in charge, is a Westerner who takes care of the local communities and the environment and for this reason part of the cost is used to support them too... in addition to this she and her staff have made themselves available to fulfill our every request... of course don't be too pretentious and remember that you are in the jungle!! Having said that, the experience inside the park with their guides was fantastic, special thanks go to Doni and Yuda for allowing us to take part in this fantastic experience. To return, perhaps to live 🖤

Our four day discovery trek with Ando was one of the best things we did throughout our whole month traveling in Indonesia! Would give 10/5 stars if possible. Absolutely a true adventure off the beaten path. Our guides Ando and Ari were so knowledgeable and professional. We felt so safe and taken care of as they guided us through a path Ari literally cut through the jungle in front of our eyes. Exceeded our expectations of getting out into wilderness and seeing real wildlife in a sustainable way. We learned so much from Ando about the orangutans, other primates, and birds of the region. Ari provided us with a local method of keeping leeches off of our clothes and skin (using tobacco water to soak our shoes and socks!), but be prepared to potentially ditch your shoes or have them cleaned after the hike, as they retain the smell and color :) Saw wild orangutan mother and baby pair on our day 1 lunch break! Tour is structured such that even if we had not seen wild orangutans on our first day, we would have had our fill of sightings on the final day, as we finished the trek through Gunung Leuser National Park, where many wild species have groups of animals that are more habituated to humans, including orangutans, macaques, and gibbons. We loved the river rafting back to Green Hill from the park, it was the perfect way to finish our trip.For our three days and nights deeper in the jungle, we did not come across another group and enjoyed peaceful evenings at our riverside campsites. Our chef, Emmanuel, prepared the most delicious food! Each meal was different and was always followed by a beautiful spread of fresh local fruit. We were always delighted and surprised by dinner, which was immensely flavorful, filling, and plant based! We ate at many great, well known restaurants during our trip through Indonesia, and yet some of our top favorite meals were homemade and cooked in the jungle on our Green Hill Discovery Trek.The trekking at times was difficult and quite steep, but the beauty and being out in the remote wilderness was so worth it. I would highly recommend this 4 Day Discovery Trek to experienced hikers that want to see areas of Sumatra most visitors would not experience otherwise. However, be advised that because Green Hill does not engage in the unsustainable practices of wildlife feeding, no sightings are guaranteed. This makes what you are able to see all the more special :)

We stayed 3 nights in the treehouse room at the guesthouse in Bukit Lawang. This is a spacious room with a comfortable bed and a beautiful view over the valley. The food and drinks served in the restaurant were also delicious. We also completed a 3D2N discovery trek organised by GH. This was an extremely rewarding and memorable experience. The guide Wanda was very knowledgeable about the wildlife and jungle in general. We were very fortunate to see 8 completely wild orangutans on the first day of trekking. Loved it!

We slept at Green Hill for four nights and did a jungle trek for two days. The rooms are basic, but completely fine. No hot shower available. The staff is very friendly and can help you with everything. They picked us up at our drop off and carried our bags. They also arranged transport to Berastagi. Breakfast and juices are also very tasty!The first day of the Jungle Trekking we partly went into a private piece of jungle owned by the owners of Green Hill. A tough trek where we didn't meet anyone else. Didn't really spot any monkeys, but the trek itself was worth it. The camp where we slept was very basic. Very thin mats and no mosquito net. The food provided during the trek was delicious. At the camp a chef came to cook especially for us. That was wonderful. What was a shame is that hey camp maa was a 20-minute walk to a road from which it was a 15-minute scooter ride to Bukit Lawang. We had booked the overnight trek with the idea that the overnight stay was necessary to go deeper into the jungle, but that is not the case. The second day we went via Bukit Lawang to another piece of jungle by scooter. Saw a lot of semi-wild monkeys here and also many other tourists. A contrast with the first day.

Super happy that we chose Green Hill. We received help from Andrea and Yuda and they were very patient in explaining things and all logistics. The trekking guides that Green Hill arranged for us were extremely helpful—my mom is 66 years old and was able to complete the challenging trek thanks to their help. The team also explained the behaviors of orangutans during the hike as they have worked in this area for years. Overall we are extremely satisfied and would definitely recommend.
