Guys, if you consider yourself to be somewhat of an inner-north hipster from Naarm, or a down-to-earth trust fund baby from Erskinville, do not fall for the marketing materials for this hotel. Based on the website, photographs and affiliation with designhotels.com, we believed we were checking in to a high-end wellness retreat, with a focus on healing, nurturing and a respect for impeccable design. Yes the buildings were stunning. Specimens of late 80s brutalist architecture, nestled in the hills of a japanese rainforest. However, the rooms were very dog-eared and in need of a complete overhaul. On arrival to our room, indeed it was spacious and grand, but the curtains had been kept open all day, and the sun had been beaming in, and the air conditioning was cranked, but there was no way the temperature in the room was going to get below 27degrees. And this was in the middle of a heat wave. You could also recognise the distinct smell of old cigarettes (something i’m used to every now and then when visiting Japan, but not at a wellness retreat 🥴). I noticed the walls were very scuffed, and decided it wasn’t going to cut it, so we asked to move to a different room. We were downgraded to a smaller room (and not offered any compensation for the downgrade), but the air conditioning worked and it was in a less exposed spot, not getting heated up during the day by the sun. However the first thing I noticed when entering the bathroom was a big fat black hair on the shower wall.Let’s talk about the cuisine. The only onsite restaurant offered one option only. A 7-course french degustation menu every night at a cost of $150 per head. I am talking Foie Gras, crème brulee, Wagyu beef. We are at a wellness retreat, why are we eating this food? To top it all off, we thought there might have been some group yoga classes, or stretching sessions. Their version of this was a pile of rolled up yoga mats in the corner of a room that said, here are the yoga mats, feel free to use them, but please clean and return. This is a tourist trap. Actually it’s a hipster trap. And everytime we shuffled past another family from the inner-north, we shared an awkward exchange, knowing we to had been sucked in to the clever pr consultants dirty work. We spent $2500 AUD on 3 nights of “they are lovely staff but gosh this is embarrassing”.

We went from Tokyo to this magnificent hotel for 2 nights. Here we were able to enjoy nature, drink great coffee, enjoy extremely good food, relax in the oases and do yoga on the terrace. The service was excellent - thank you very much for your hospitality. We would have loved to stay with you longer. Thank you for the great time!

The rooms are very good, the staff is very friendly and it is a great place to relax.Getting there is a bit complicated, I recommendtake a taxi from the station which costs approximately 9000 yen (in 2024)The only thing is that few of the staff speak English well so there is a lot of trouble understanding certain aspects of their policies, for example, if you make a reservation at a restaurant you CANNOT cancel for free...

Overall, we liked our stay here. The grounds are beautiful, the staff is nice, and the food is solid. The rooms are fairly outdated but clean and had good AC. We paid a small fee to get upgraded to a much bigger room upon arrival. Our only issue was that other than the bus system it was very difficult to get around. The reception staff was very confused when we asked about taxi’s to and from dinner off the property. Ultimately we ended up using Taxi Go and had no issues. The onsen was pretty empty and clean.

The hotel grounds are beautiful with nature and wildlife all around but this is possibly one of the worst hotel stays I’ve ever had. Aside from two or three pleasant service personell, the majority of the staff is horribly trained and passive aggressive. This is especially true for Nguyen the receptionist. In our time staying there the room was not cleaned once, even with giving them ample time and space to do so. The shuttle bus magically did not work when asked for a ride, even though it had worked last night. Over all, one can say that while the location is great, there are much better hotels in the region with more updated and cleaner rooms as well.

The hotel is located in the middle of the forest, which is why you can hear the birds chirping and see many animals. The employees are all very friendly. Particularly noteworthy here is Maruoka, who is super, super nice and helpful! The food is also of the highest quality, which justifies the comparatively high price. There are still a few negative points:- We arrived by bus and therefore had to walk the entire steep path to the hotel complex. We didn't expect that from accommodation in this price range. Even on the way back, only the guests from the villa part of the hotel were chauffeured to the street, which was very strange given the few guests and many employees.- The rooms could have been much more modern.

When I entered from the street, there was a hut and people came out after a while!I was given directions to the hotel and a staff member was there when I went to the entrance hall.I went up the road to the top, saw a parking lot, and arrived at the place I was told to go, but there was no one there and there was no sign of anyone coming out, so I parked at an empty P and sorted out my luggage, and a few minutes later, I headed to the place I was told. Finally someone came out (quite late)Would you like to bring your luggage? Please bring only one of the three. There is no specific reception area.Waiting to sit at a free tableThere is no welcome drinkI was guided to the room after giving information and explanation and signing on the tablet.Climb the stairs to the second floor to get to your roomBath Dining area Free style roomEverything moves along a handmade walkway outside. This is tough in the rain and winter😅.There is no TV in the roomRefrigerator (no frozen part)sofa on bedThe difference in level between the shower only and the toilet is 1 to 2 cm, so water comes out.Outside the large windows, you can hear the sound of the wind, the voices of birds, and the chirping of cicadas in the forest, which is soothing.Air conditioner has 3 air volume levels without temperature adjustmentIs it because of my physical condition or because of the air conditioner? It was so hot and uncomfortable that I could hardly sleep.Dinner is a courseWas it an extra ¥1,500? foie grasFor an extra ¥3,000 🐓 Chicken → Beef 🥩(The foie gras filled my mouth with the scent of a cow shed.)I ordered two glasses of red wine.A cup costs around ¥1,200 to ¥1,500.There was some miscellaneous flavor, so I think it's worth the price. The white cream of yuzu or something on the bread isdidn't suit usThe other one was saferI would be happy if you could put butter too.Green pea soup has a strong grassy smell. The amount of honey scent was too sweet, but it was too sweet.I guess it's just my taste...Anyway, the voice of the staff is small.I'm tired of having to ask so many questions.I know it's not intentionalMy foot was stepped on, but I didn't say a word. The texture of the swordfish roll is not good either.main dishThe bone-in chicken thigh confit is large.Weak seasoning and no sauceThe meat had no flavor at all and was sticky. The meat itself is not tastyI asked for salt, please.I wonder if it's original, it looks like it's roasted with something black, it's not salt, but there was a lot of it on the plate! You don't need that much 💦I sprinkled salt on it, but the meat didn't have any flavor, so I felt like I was just eating it.The last dessert was also too sweet for me.Chestnuts were displayed even though it was summer. No meal has ever made me smile so much.Bread delivery is also slow. The first bread was moist and delicious, but the hokkacha was dry and crunchy.I would like to request that water be provided from the beginning. When I asked, it was 900 yen whether it was a glass or a bottle. The bath was made of cypress and had a nice open feel. There aren't many amenities in the bathroom or in the room, so I'd like to see some cleansing products.I get in trouble when I forget.Breakfast was included, but dinner was terrible.I wasn't expecting it at allIt was buffet style and luxurious.Freshly baked mini hamburger 🍔It was so delicious that the meat juices were dripping.Melty cheese omeletThe curry with creamy meat was a little too spicy, but since it was in the morning, it was still delicious. One older man had very good customer service, so I was able to spend a pleasant time at the end.Thank you 😊As expected, there was no one to see me off on the way home. It's a wonderful place surrounded by so much nature. It's a shame, I don't think I want to go again. There was table tennis etc.I think it would be good to have a time system.I feel bad about taking money.

This was my first retreat hotel and it was a very disappointing hotel. ||Since it was summer vacation, the quality of the stay was truly unbelievable given the high price of the stay. …
