Stayed for one night on 113/10/3The boss lady's service is very good and has been passed down for three generations. The location is not far from the station. From Thursday to Friday, I can rest in the nearby hot springs in the morning. It’s a pity that I didn’t take a bath there.Living in a traditional thatched house for the first timeThere are mostly pickles for dinner and breakfast, but miso and beef are delicious.Luckily we were the only guests that dayThe sound insulation is probably not very goodToilets and restaurants are sharedWe need to bring a flashlight when we go out at night. The store has flashlights but didn’t tell us.Have breakfast at 7:30 in the morning and go for a walk before breakfastThere is no one anywhere I want to take pictures

I stayed there for two days about 35 years ago. I remember that the food was delicious, and I regret that I went to bed tired for two days without listening to my grandma's Kokirikobushi. Before I left, I still have a photo I took with the landlady, who is probably now my predecessor.I want to go again.

Just as literary greats used to write at hot spring resorts, this is the kind of inn you'll want to visit when you're stuck on something. The owner's natural and pleasant customer service is one of the factors that makes you want to come back again.Thank you for all the help you have given me.

I stopped in Shirakawago because I wanted to enjoy a slow life away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo, but it turned out to be a disappointing experience. There were hardly any partitions between the rooms, and I was unfortunately bumping into a group of college students, so I could hear the big party going on through the sliding doors until after 2am. What's more, the light shining through the sliding doors was so bright that I couldn't sleep at all.I had the strange experience of being noisier and brighter than Tokyo at night. I wanted to take a walk early in the morning.

Lovely stay near the edge of the main village street. The food was amazing and the host was great. I heard most guests stay to hang out by the hearth and that's an integral part of staying in a gassho house but no one in our house hung out so we were a bit bummed out. Otherwise everything was great!Recommend to bath at the nearby onsen and go to their outdoor bath area for some river views while you soak.

We found Otaya on the Shirakawa-go tourism homepage. The booking process was easy. The rooms are traditional japanese rooms with tatami floors and shoji doors. Sleeping on the floor with futon was surprisingly comfortable. The hosts are very nice and explain everything you need/want to know. The shower/toilet is shared, but very clean. The dinner and breakfast are traditional japanese foods, which tasted very good. Thank you for the interesting and beautiful night.
