We stayed in a non-smoking room at 10/F and it was perfectly clean! No smell at all. The view is great. Nothing to complain about at this price.Room size is a typical business hotel in Japan. For me, it's completely ok.But it can be a bit too small for some people. The staff is nice. The location is very convenient.

On September 30th, 2024, we were given a room that had the following list of filthy conditions:-2 spider nests on opposite corners of the room, one with a spider in it-One of the blanket covers had black marks from burnt cigarette ashes-The walls were covered with numerous markings and dirt spotsIt was clear that the room had not been properly cleaned for at least several days and indicated that the cleaning staff lack basic hygiene standards, so we contacted the front desk to inform them of these issues. One of the front desk staff showed up to our room and apologized for the dirty conditions but also said that this is a "lower end hotel", so the cleaning will not be as good as other higher end hotels. We told him that this was not acceptable even for the lowest rated hotels. We then told him to take photos on his camera so he could document these problems but his phone had a terrible camera and it was clear that he wasn’t interested in taking proper photos as he took unfocussed pictures. So, we had to take the photos ourselves of the spiders’ nests and he took a picture with his phone of our photos. He then said: “So sorry, I am from a worker from Nepal and not Japanese. I will come back in a few minutes.”He came back with a single replacement blanket and asked if everything was okay now, completely ignoring the fact that we mentioned the issues of the spiders and dirty walls. We explained to him that while we appreciated the new blanket, the issue of the spiders’ nests, the spider, and the dirty walls was a major issue and not an acceptable way to treat customers. He then left the room for a second time and after a few minutes came back. We told him that we wanted to speak to either the manager or assistant manager but he said that they would be back in two days.He said to wait a minute and left for a third time from our room and when he finally came back, he simply said “Let’s go to another room” and it was clear that he was told each time by a Japanese staff member to deal with this issue. He kept repeating that he is a foreigner from Nepal, just a worker, and not Japanese. We understand that this was a difficult situation for him as he kept looking at his watch and apologizing repeatedly.Due to this staff member’s multiple trips to our room, we suspect that he was given instructions from his Japanese staff to deal with this issue as they did not want to deal with it themselves. This supposedly “better" room was the same size but smelled of heavy smoke and the walls had markings, just like our first room. He said that our original reservation was a smoking room, however we never choose a smoking room in our reservation. This was besides the point as the main issue was the spider nests and the dirty room conditions. Regardless, this new room was also filthy with stains on the walls and the bed sheets. We told him that this was not a professional way to treat customers and that we wanted to speak to the manager over the phone but he kept saying “No manager”. At this point, we were shocked and frustrated that the staff would treat us like this and to make matters worse, he simply said he had to go and left us in the room. He was clearly trying to brush us off as he knew there was no explanation for these terrible conditions. We had no choice but to leave the room and head downstairs to ask for a refund. We met the same staff member and a Japanese staff member. The Japanese man was speaking to him in Japanese and told us that he could only give us a refund for the next night’s fee but not today’s. He also said that in order to give us tomorrow’s refund, we first had to give back the two breakfast coupons that we paid for with the reservation. So, we gave the two breakfast coupons back, got the refund for the next night. This was the worst experience we’ve ever had at a hotel due to the unprofessional staff and severe lack of cleaning standards. A health inspection must be done on Country Hotel Takayama to ensure that the hotel is cleaned and the management are held accountable for their negligence.

If you have a bit extra money to spend, then go somewhere else. The hotel is beyond outdated and is worn down to the bone. It smells like an old people’s home and there are marks and wear and tear everywhere in the room. It’s okay if you literally don’t have more money or if this is the last room available in town - but for a little extra you can get a much nicer hotel. I checked in and out within an hour - and ended up paying for two hotels as I refused to sleep there, so it was worth it to me. I booked a room across the street at another hotel instead and haven’t regretted my decision. Also - if you lose your key - it’s a ¥300.000 fine! Which is insane. I will say that the staff were super friendly.

Stay away from this hotel! The booking usually has no clarification whether it’s smoking room or nonsmoking room. But we got a smoking room as the receptionist says all non smoking rooms are full. The smoke room smell really bad and not bearable. We left the hotel about one hour after checking in, and went to another hotel. When we checked with the booking platform for negotiation, and the hotel told the platform that we booked the smoking room and should be in smoking room. THEY ARE LAYING !We booked two nights, and we thought it’s okay to refund for the second night as we stayed only one hour and it’s their fault for not providing the non smoking room, they are really rude and not want to refund for the second night, they offered a nonsmoking room for the second night as a compensation. Please give a mercy and do care about the guests health! They cannot be humiliated in a smoking room for one night and wait for your mercy.

The reception was cold, even a bit rude. It didn't look like a Japanese welcome at all. Probably the coldest reception I have ever had. It is a cheap oldish hotel right by the railway station and on top of a supermarket. The location makes it a good place if you don't want a Ryokan or similar.

The hotel is rightly across the street from the bus station. It was useful as I just dropped off my bag and started roaming around. The room was decent, and the cleanliness was acceptable. …

The location is right across the bus and train station, and in terms of location is extremely good in terms of access. We stayed in the smoking rooms and that's where we run out of positive things to say, had we known it was a smoking room we may have attempted to find alternative accommodation, not only the room but the entire floor hallway stunk of cigarettes, tarring stains all over the roof and walls, difficult to free yourself the smell of cigarettes. This is a potential amenity if you're a smoker, but to anyone who values fresh air, this is not an ideal location and will mar your experience.

Best location just cross the street from both train and bus station. As the room size is written in the booking apps, please don't make any noise due to tinyness of the room... Well it is matched with the price anyway. The room itself is pretty clean with amenities and standard size of bathroom. The cleaning staff put an interesting notes as I left the cup with 1/2 full of water. 👍The amazing changes of the morning view from the room., 2 first day with heavy snowfall then no snow at all on the 2.

Stay away from this place! Nasty rooms, cigarette smell, mold in the bathroom, bugs and spiders in the ceiling... Disgusting experience 🤢 The location is great and the price low, but imo it's still overpriced for what you're getting.
