There is a sauna and an open-air bath. The bath is hot from the source. You can also play table tennis and karaoke. This is a Japanese-style inn that is a mix of retro and modern.

Stayed here for 2 nights, seeing as they served Hida Wagyu Beef, had outdoor hotsprings (rotenburo) and was convenient to access using the Nohi Bus.The place was quiet, and cosy and met all of our requirements. The food was very delicious, about ~15 plates per meal, we didnt finish any single meal (as 2 grown men) because the food was simply too plentiful (the photos are incomplete as they bring more dishes throughout the meal). Note that if you are not comfortable with eating raw egg, natto, fish with bones, sashimi etc. you will still be able to eat just fine, but will have to exclude some dishes. Rice refills are available if required. The hot springs were good, certainly dated as is the whole hotel's aesthetic but nonetheless adequate and as advertised. 1 entrance leads to 1 outdoor hotspring + 2 indoor hotsprings and a sauna. The second entrance leads to 1 outdoor +1 indoor hot spring and a sauna. The first entrance is available to men (and 2nd for women only) until 10pm before the entrances switch. I do not believe there are any private onsens. The place was very quiet and we had all the onsens to ourselves after 8pm. The hotel appeared to only be half booked even on a public holiday weekend. The hosts were very nice and even knew a bit of english.Access was very convenient with the bus stop just a few steps away from the entrance, and is on the way to Shin-Hotaka Ropeway so being away from Hirayu Onsen was not a problem.Note that there are no shops around so for any thing other than the provided breakfast and dinner, you will need to bring with you.

I used it when photographing the Northern Alps Ohashi Starry View. This is a good old Japanese traditional inn. The open-air baths alternate between men and women, so you can enjoy both in one night. I was in a pure Japanese-style room, but I didn't feel any inconvenience in charging my smartphone if I changed the position of the futon. (Wi-Fi OK) There is no need to stash snacks and cup noodles in your carry-on case in case you are not satisfied with the food at the hotel/ryokan Arual (lol) As a big eater, I can assure you. In addition to the photos, there was soba and tempura, and the prepared beef was also very satisfying. It's nice that there is an air conditioner in the room and you can set it to your liking.

The inn was in the perfect location for a leisurely trip to the Okuhida Onsen Village at the end of autumn, enjoying the fall and yellow leaves of the Hida region.
