We enjoyed staying right on the Nakasendo Way. The host was really helpful and went out of his way to discuss the walk from Nagiso to Nojiri (which he’d recently walked), organising a taxi for us to start our walking outside the built up …

We enjoyed our stay at this inn. The best part was the communal meals. I requested a vegetarian meal in advance and it was uniquely prepared for me (though note that it included dashi). The food was very fresh and tasty. We also made use of a vending machine for additional cold drinks. The room was fairly comfortable, though the walls are very thin so we could hear our neighbours quite a bit. All the bathrooms were on the main level as well, and it was a bit of a trek to get to them. The very high-quality shower/bath was fantastic, though. The inn feels quite historic. Some areas were a bit odd (clutter covered with a blanket). We were hiking from Magome and we realised we may have preferred to stay in Tsumago because of the additional amenities and distributing the walking a bit more evenly. All in all, we very much enjoyed our stay.

The young husband is working very hard. English with a Japanese accent is also elegant. It's about a 20-minute walk from the center of Tsumago-juku, which may seem inconvenient, but the surrounding area is quiet and I think it's the perfect environment for people who want to relax.

We greatly enjoyed our stay at Tsutamuraya. The hosts are warm, the dinner and lunch delicious. The rooms are large and clean. The building dates from the end of the 19th century, which gives it a lot of charm. It is very well equipped. Its location is perfect for people hiking between Magome and Tsumago. In addition, it is less than a kilometer from two magnificent falls.

We had an amazing time in Tsutamuraya! We hiked from Tsumago under the rain and we arrived completely wet so the owner nicely helped us out to hang out coats and boots to have them dry for the next day.He gave us a tour of the place in English and showed us the room that was nice and the futons were comfortable. The dinner and breakfast were prepared by his family and most products were cultivated or made by them! It was delicious and sufficiently big portions.Overall the place is really authentic and nice and the people are welcoming, I highly recommend!
