Honestly felt so welcomed and happy throughout my visit at this beautiful onsen resort ✨ the staff made this a beautiful cultural experience through their impeccable service and care in making our stay everything and more! Please take the negative reviews you see for this spot with a grain of salt because this spot is heaven on earth! They were extremely accommodating and helpful with selecting foods for my shellfish intolerance -I felt like I could still have an amazing traditional meal each time we at 🙏Amazing views and food that will make you want to never leave Gora 💖 thank you Karaku!

This places was incredible. Admittedly there were a few reviews I read that seemed concerning but the staff and accommodations quickly dispelled those. Everyone we interacted with was polite, kind, and professional. The food was incredible. Both in presentation as well as flavor. The beds were comfortable and the private onsen was out of this world comfortable and peaceful. If you're trying to find a place that will take great care of you; look no further!

The positives:- From a location perspective, this hotel is situated in an amazing spot. You're 16 minutes away on foot from the Hakone Open Air Museum and 8 minutes away from Gora Station. From there, you can take the cable car and ropeway to Owakudani and Lake Ashi.- This hotel offers a free shuttle service to and from Odawara Station 2 times per day. Make sure to talk with the staff before arriving to check if it's possible to use it since it saves a lot of time and hassle. We used this when we left and it was great. As a warning, in case you can't take the shuttle and you're coming from Odawara Station with luggage, DO NOT take the bus. Looking at Google Maps you'll think that you'll only have to walk for a few minutes to the hotel, but in reality, you'll have to climb what feels like 1000 stairs through super narrow pathways. We had 2 heavy luggage bags and it took us about an hour to get to the top. If you can't carry your bags through this, you run the risk of getting stuck there. Just take the train to Gora Station, even if it seemingly takes more time.- When we arrived, the staff was waiting for us at the entrance and offered to carry our bags. Everybody was extremely polite. More on this later.- We stayed in a West Wing-Twin Room which we upgraded to the 6th floor for an extra charge, which was well worth it. The view was absolutely stunning. The room itself was spotless, as you would expect from a 5 star hotel. Extremely spacious, with all the amenities that you could think of available to you. The beds were big and one of the best we've had in Japan. The star of the show is of course, the onsen on the balcony and it's just as good as it sounds. The entire hotel looks like a museum and it's impossible to find something to complain about in this regard. The negatives:- Be aware that the check-in process was a bit longer than at other hotels, in case you have other plans. It took about 30-40 minutes for the whole process to be completed. You also need to pay some taxes that are not included in the price (they accept credit cards).- Maybe this is gonna sound like a weird complaint, but I feel like the staff is...way too polite. Combine the fact that Japanese people are already culturally very respectful with a 5 Star hotel and you get this surreal level of politeness that can make you feel uncomfortable. You're going to see the staff doing deep bows and thanking you repeatedly for nothing. If you're into this type of treatment, then you're gonna love it. If there's a place where you're gonna feel like a king, this is it. We're more into laid back atmospheres and this was a bit too much for us. It's clearly not a "negative" per se, but something to keep in mind.- The kaiseki dinner was one of the things that we were most excited for and sadly, as others have mentioned, it was the biggest disappointment of our stay. I'm not exaggerating when I say that 90% of the food that was served to us had.. no flavor. It's as if the chef was afraid of using any sort of spices. We didn't leave the restaurant hungry, but we didn't leave it satisfied either. We've eaten cheap sushi and wagyu beef from markets that were unbelievably tasty and here, they literally had no taste to them. Not sure if the ingredients are at fault. For breakfast we opted for the western option and that was very good, so at least there's that.- Another thing that bothered me is that you get no drinks included with your kaiseki dinner, which is a bit strange, considering that there's an open bar in the hotel where you can grab drinks free of charge. The prices for drinks at the restaurant are.. well.. 5 star worthy, so you're going to have to shell out even more money on top.

Although it's expensive, I think it's a good hotel because of its location as a sightseeing base in Hakone, its newness, and just the right amount of luxury. We especially recommend the private bath. It costs 5,000 yen per hour and is much more elegant than the guest room open-air bath or the observation open-air bath (large public bath). This includes post-bath juices (straight smoothies, unusual fruit sodas, etc.), and 30 minutes of cleaning between guests. It would be a waste to come to this inn and spend 5,000 yen and not take a private bath. It is a good idea to make a reservation from the tablet in your room immediately after checking in. For some reason, reservations were scarce on the day of my visit. too good to waste. There is also a guest lounge where you can enjoy drinks and snacks. Although it doesn't have all the luxury items, it has a nice atmosphere and is perfect for taking a break after a meal or hot spring. It closes early at 8pm, so get there early. There is also a terrace, an outdoor lounge right outside the guest lounge, and a forest terrace up the stairs from there that is refreshing and recommended in the morning. There are many pitfalls of jade dragon (a plant with thin, dark leaves) under your feet, so be careful especially at night. At night, we recommend the water terrace that can be accessed from the main building, and the illumination reflected on the shimmering water surface is full of emotion. Both rooms have sofas and side tables, so you can enjoy them even more if you bring snacks and drinks from the guest lounge. On the other hand, I can't help but feel that it was a little disappointing.・There was a piece of garbage left on the floor of the guest room toilet,・Even though I asked for details about what drinks and tea items in the guest room could be refilled, the explanation was incorrect.・ Regarding the precautions for breakfast, even though I made a reservation online in advance, I received a polite phone call from the hotel afterwards to confirm, so I didn't fully understand what I had said there, so I had to explain and confirm again on the spot.・The hair dryer and facial beauty device in the public bath look a lot older...There were some worrisome scenes. It's impossible to make sure everything is perfect when it comes to cleaning, the public bath is used by guests, and I think there are various circumstances regarding the staff's knowledge and communication, so it seems like a new hotel and we will continue to do so in the future. I look forward to it. By the way, the breakfast was very delicious and I enjoyed it.I took a quick look at other reviews, and there are some points that make me realize that this may indeed be the case. I don't know if the staff are undergoing training, but as mentioned above, there were some who were not able to get things right, and I don't think that would happen at a long-established inn in the same price range, so I definitely didn't miss a single thing. If that's what you're looking for, there seem to be a lot of long-established luxury inns that cost between 70,000 and 150,000 yen per person, so those are probably the best options. I looked at it with a smile on my face. Although some of the customers were not Japanese, they did not have any trouble communicating in Japanese, and I think they have a variety of staff available to accommodate the increasing number of English-only customers, who have been increasing in recent years. Masu. I don't know what the situation was because there was no sign of anyone being overbearing. There were times when the elevator had a strong odor, but it was completely due to the strong perfume of the passengers (we were identified by chance next to each other when checking out). A relatively large number of people who like perfume are young women who work in offices in Minato Ward. The inside of the building, including the elevators, was clean considering it was a new building, but the only place I felt that it wasn't thoroughly cleaned was the floor of the guest room toilet. Common areas such as public baths are more the responsibility of the guests rather than the responsibility of the hotel... Ah, in that sense, it might be better to stay at a more expensive inn. However, Hakone is a popular tourist destination and a place that many people visit, so I feel like there are some aspects that cannot be helped no matter how high-class it is.Overall, I couldn't help but feel that it was a bit expensive since it's in Hakone, but overall I think it's a very good inn considering the location (it's a good base for heading to various sightseeing spots in Hakone), hospitality, and facilities. The hotel industry as a whole is currently at a high price due to inbound demand and the backlash from corona damage compensation. This is an inn I would like to visit again once the price and family situation have calmed down a bit.

I would like to share with you my reviews of the accommodations I visited recently. First of all, the attitude of the reception staff was very high-pressure, and I felt that it was inappropriate for them to treat customers who were meeting them for the first time. I can see similar opinions in other reviews, so I think they need thorough customer service training.During check-in, I could see the staff talking lazily to each other behind the scenes, which gave me the impression that it was lacking in quality. It feels like a guesthouse, so I would like to see more professional service. Also, I was concerned about the smell inside the elevator. The feel of a cheap hotel is evident in every corner, and the overall impression is that there is a lack of cleanliness. In particular, the open-air bath attached to the room was cheap and had the atmosphere of a high-quality nursing home. The tatami-style mat in the room was also in tatters, so it wasn't a relaxing environment. It would be nice if the accommodation fee was 20,000 to 30,000 yen, but it was a very disappointing experience in this price range. This seems to be a service aimed at foreigners, perhaps due to inbound demand, but I felt that more consideration was needed for domestic customers as well. Overall, it was a disappointing accommodation experience. There were also many disappointing points regarding the food. I wondered if it was considered basic service to not clean up the belt of chopsticks when exchanging dishes. I couldn't believe that I couldn't do something like that. Furthermore, when I ordered iced oolong, I was told that they had oolong tea, but what? I was surprised to hear that. As a service industry, I find it questionable to receive such a response to a drink order. How about serving it with rice grains? Even though I came to celebrate, I was extremely uncomfortable.A 10,000 yen hotel would be fine, but this was a truly miserable place and the worst experience in this price range.

Words cannot describe the experience we had at this place. Hakone is such a great place to visit on its own, once you pair it with Karaku it would turn into a magical place. Once you step into this place you would get nothing but great hospitality, luxury experience and feel the Japanese culture and traditions. This nicest part of this place was the availability of private and in suit Onsen, especially if you are traveling as a couple. Dinner and breakfast are all prepared with utmost care and are really tasty. You’ll have the option to choose between Japanese or western cuisine. The hotel also offers free shuttle services to and from Odawara station. So make sure to check with them about the times as it would be a bit tricky to travel on your own with the bus and expensive by a taxi.

Absolutely magical trip to Karaku. This was our first trip to Japan and Karaku was excellent to experience a luxury traditional Japanese Onsen hotel. Wine pairings for the dinner were excellent and very good value for money, staff were impeccable and the food tasted great. Note, the Japanese food menu, whilst delicious, is very different to western food, so may not appeal to very fussy eaters. The private Onsen in the room was a nice touch, with a great view of the mountains.

A highlight of our Japan trip! We decided last minute to add a day between our Tokyo and Kyoto segments to stop in Hakone and recharge - it was one of the best decisions we made of the trip to stay at Hakone Gora Kuraku. …
