Warm people and a peaceful stay. The food was beautiful with great effort in its preparation and appearance. It is traditional Japanese and so can be challenging to a western palate. There is a running creek with many small waterfalls next to the hotel which is surrounded by lush forest. The rooms are well sized though accessing luggage is awkward and the shower is tiny. But the private and public onsen downstairs means you probably don't need the shower. Do include meals in your reservation as there's not much close. You will be well looked after.

If you want to try amazing traditionel food, this is the hotel to book. We visited for our honeymoon and had an amazing stay at the hotel, which was lucky since it rained the entire time we were in Hakone.

Great resort experience at Hotel Nanase. The room was large with comfortable beds and a private onsen, The room had a view of the river below and lush forest. The hotel has beautiful original art in the public areas and in the rooms. Although somewhat dated, the room was clean and comfortable. Japanese lounge wear and slippers were provided, which some guests wore to dinner. Some of the staff are English speaking, and all were welcoming and attentive. The restaurant Kaiseki multi course dinners and breakfasts were absolutely delicious. The light jazz piped in music was a little repetitive, but the classical music at breakfast was nice. Note that lunch is not provided, and there are not many nearby options. There are restaurants and shopping down by the Hakone-Yumoto train station. All baths in the hotel have water flowing straight from the hot spring source. The room onsen water was too hot for us, so the friendly staff helped adjust it cooler. We also tried one of the 3 downstairs private onsens which were clean and partially outdoors. Super relaxing. Although there is a bus stop nearby, we chose to take taxis to and from the hotel in order to save time. Note the hotel recommends reserving a taxi at least 24 hours in advance.

We really enjoyed our stay here for the most part. Fantastic wooden onsen in room, comfortable beds and great meals. The staff was really nice and attentive. The cons: black mold growing in the bathroom that was obvious. Also, we stayed for 2 nights and really only ate the food at the hotel and my partner got food poisoning. When leaving, we ended up having to get out of the bus half way down the mountain to vomit and when I called the hotel for help calling a taxi they said to get back on the bus. For a full service ryokan like this I would expect a bit more help.

What a wonderful experience. The hotel rooms are very comfortable and bigger than what we have experienced in Japan and their private onsen is amazing. They have a public onsen and then also private 3 onsen rooms. The water there was too hot to jump in but we used it for splashing and it also has a shower outside in which you can set your own temperature. So nice. In addition, they have a relaxing room with various hot beverages (like matcha, hot chocolate, coffee, etc.) for free. The best part about this hotel is the incredibly nice and friendly staff. My favorite stay during our Japan trip. I would 100% recommend this to any couple looking for a romantic and peaceful getaway!
