We had booked this place because of the great reviews in here and other sites. The location is perfect : 7 minutes from the Kyoto station. The lobby is great: got a library, a movie space and meal. …

One of the coolest hotels I’ve ever stayed in. Especially in Japan. The staff was friendly and also fluent in English.Amenities: a big library/book shop, a private onsen (which you can book for yourself for free!), a bar, a small movie theatre (which would view short movies every night), free umbrellas, pillows and slippers on every floor to take to your room if needed, fresh towels as often as needed, a laundry room, a drinks vending machine and the best thing: a really huge and beautiful kitchen in the basement with everything you might need: oven, microwave, dishes and lots of space to sit and eat your own food. That was my personal highlight!Yes, the room wasn’t the biggest and the window couldn’t be opened fully because there was literally a wall (of a neighbour building) behind it on the outside … but everything else worked for us. And it was super close to Kyoto station, also a big plus!

This hotel feels more like a hostel - with social activities baked into the hotel as well as amenities like kitchen and laundry. However, a lot of the services you’ll have to help yourself - like water, pajamas, towels etc.Be mindful when you book that the room is small. You’ll have to tuck in your suitcase to walk around. The wifi also is not great. I ended up using data for most of the time. The location however is wonderful. If you’re looking for a decent hotel with convenient location, Tune Stay is great. If you’re looking for more of a vacation, pay a bit more for a hotel experience somewhere else.

The room were smaller of Japan standard, which is already quite small. Also, in our case the room was facing an internal wall, so it was dark all time and you couldn’t sense whether outside there was light or dark, rain or sun, so we weren’t super happy about that. The location is close to the station, so convenient in that sense, but not the nicest if you want to go out at night somewhere nice at walking distance, also the area is a bit noisy and on a main road.

The online photos of this property focus on the common space with extensive illuminated bookshelves, giving it a modern and inviting feel. However in reality, upon arrival, the hotel feels more like a hostel. The rooms are utilitarian and more basic than you might anticipate. But the most disappointing aspect of Tune Stay is most of the staff. They are inexperienced and dispassionate, aloof and uninformed, not positive traits for work in hospitality. We were sent to a restaurant that was closed, and another that turned us away, though we had been told that it should be no problem just to walk in. Next time we are in Kyoto we will gladly pay more for a better hotel. The price point here was "too good to be true". Also, the check in time is later than most properties, even luxury ones: 4pm.

Very cool low key atmosphere and friendly staff. They have a library and lounge downstairs. The staff are super friendly and are also bilingual. They even let you keep your bags at the hotel on checkout day if you're not leaving Kyoto right away. Highly recommended.

One of the best places we have stayed in a long time. The library is super nice and they show short films every night free of charge. The room also felt very clean and the beds were so comfortable. If we are ever back in kyoto we will stay here no question.
