🎈Nanzenji Temple approach KikusuiI went to have lunch at Nanzenji Kikusui, a place with many fond memories. It's a place I've visited many times before. The added value of being able to take a walk in the very well-kept and beautiful garden is an added bonus, and the food itself is well-organized. Although boiled tofu dishes are famous, to put it bluntly, the taste can be found anywhere.I felt like I was paying for the experience, atmosphere, and space rather than the food. I would be happy if the quality of the food improved further. Is Western food better for this?Thank you for the meal♪—————————————————————Nanzenji Temple approach Kikusui📍31 Nanzenji Fukuchicho, Sakyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture 606-8435—————————————————————

I came here for a meal rather than staying overnight, but I thought it was exceptional that you could get this kind of food, atmosphere, and service for around 8,000 yen.I chose the cheapest course of cooking, and it was a very satisfying course, with plenty of volume until the final dessert.

Nanzenji Sando Kikusui is a popular wedding venue in Kyoto. While the façade of the ryokan resembles that of a traditional Japanese villa, the interior design and decorations display much western influence. There are 6 guest rooms in total, easily occupied by the newlyweds’ families. The wedding celebration begins with an outdoor ceremony at the scenic Japanese Garden. While the two signature cocktails served during the Cocktail Reception are refreshing and light, the hors d’oeuvres are as blend and unenticing as their appearances. Dinner and dance party both take place in the 1/F function room. The 8-course kaiseki dinner is mediocre at best. There is no wow factor in the presentation, and most of the dishes are under seasoned. Honestly, there is not a hint of Michelin star quality; disappointment is an understatement! There is a Parfait Reception back on G/F again when the staff takes away the dining tables to convert the function room into a dance floor. Although the grape parfait is delicious, the ice-cream is melted before most guests get a chance to work on the dessert, because the heater is too strong. Servers might not be rude, but they are noticeably most friendly and accommodating towards the hosts.

Our favourite ryokan in Kyoto with superbly comfortable rooms and warm, kind and friendly staff. Absolutely sublime breakfasts. But the main asset was the staff who were simply delightful and charming. The first visit was so much fun we had to return for a further two day visit.

At a girls' party lunch on a weekday, I had the boiled tofu course. I was excited to see the impressive gate, and when I entered the store, a guide greeted me right away. The weather was clear and sunny without a single cloud, and the sun was shining through the trees, making the garden shine beautifully. All of the meals were delicious, and the boiled tofu was impressed with the aroma of soybeans and the warm, gentle taste. Customer service is always with a smile,I could feel that they welcomed us all the time. When we ordered three types of wine pairings, the sommelier personally explained to us as he poured us the wines. Thanks to all of you, we had a fun conversation and enjoyed it. I'm really glad I chose Kikusui-san out of the many boiled tofu shops. I had a wonderful time looking out at the garden from my private room. It has become a page of my best memories. I would love to hear from you again!Thank you m(_ _)m

Beautiful garden. The kaiseki dinner surprises. What I didn't like was the Japanese breakfast, the western breakfast on the second day was much better. They must improve the staff's English and the speed of breakfast for Western tourists. I recommendPS: When you leave the hotel there is a highly recommended cafeteria.
