I really liked the artsy vibe of the hotel. My room had a big comfy bed that took up most of the space but I was able to fit my suitcase in the room with no issues. The bathroom was tricky. I am short, so having to take a giant step to get into the bathroom caused me to stub my toes quite often when I misjudged the distance. The tub was tricky to get into also because it is very deep but I appreciated this because I loved taking a luxurious bath after a long day of walking around. The amenities were excellent for the price I paid. I ended up really needing those PJ’s and the shampoo, conditioner and body wash smelled really nice. If you need a comb or razor those were provided at the bath salt bar where you can make your own scents. The location is okay. It is quite a walk to Kyoto Station but I think the heat made it seem further than it really was. It’s only. 10-15 minute walk. Jujo Station is very close and I ended up using that bus stop quite a bit. Lawson’s konbini is right across the street and I stopped there often for electrolyte drinks or ice cream. The breakfast buffet is really nice. I loved having grilled veggies and soup as a breakfast option. I didn’t include this in my stay and ended up paying for it 6 of the 9 days I was there. I am female and traveled solo and never felt unsafe in the hotel. I hung out in the lounge a lot and wandered around the neighborhood a few times to find a non-touristy place to eat and was fine. I had a great stay

Excellent hotel for a long stay in Kyoto. The hotel is modern and very pretty. I loved the vibe and the atmosphere. It has a bar and a laundry service. The staff members were very friendly, breakfasts were amazing and the room was very big, very nice and super clean. It is located 15 minutes walk of the main train station. There are nice restaurants around that offer great food as Chobo-chobo. Highly recommended. Muchas gracias!

Hotel Anteroom was our first stop during our visit to Japan. We only stayed overnight. The hotel is located about a 15 mins walk from Kyoto Station, which we managed well with our large suitcases. We were greeted by a lovely staff member when we arrived. She was quick and efficient checking us in and were allowed to our room a little early. There was a small Kyoto city accommodation tax to pay.We stayed in the south wing garden room. It's a spacious room with large twin beds and a small seating area. It has a beautiful Aomori hiba tub, which was amazing to soak in after a long day walking, along with a shower. The room sized window looks out on a pebbled garden that lights up at night. There is a small store selling small goods and t-shirts, a smoking room, vending machine and ice machine on the first floor. We didn't use the bar or restaurant while we stayed. There is a Lawsons and market located across the street. Also, it is only about 20 minutes to walk to the Fushimi Inari shrine.

I'm returning to the Hotel Anteroom Kyoto after about a decade to check in on some of these original art hotels that made a big splash many years ago. What caught my attention this time was the extraordinary room rate and with the current strong exchange my room is only about $45 per night. It's not fancy but it's got all the amenities, a nice size bed, desk, soaking tub, refrigerator and views of the western mountains in Kyoto and I can see the Toji pagoda from my room. The hotel is filled with exhibition space and currently photography exhibitions dot the entire lobby area. There's a great bar with happy hour and a lovely little restaurant for breakfast. The hotel is only about a 15 to 20 minute walk from Kyoto Station south exit and if you take the subway to Kujo Station it's only a 4-minute walk. There's a lovely and very staff friendly grocery store across the street and you can find a 7-Eleven and a Lawson's just around the corner. It's a quiet area of Kyoto which is kind of nice and for the price you really can't beat it. I'll be reviewing other hotels that have been around for a while to see what they're up to and how they're keeping up with a very competitive hotel market all throughout Japan. GH

This hotel is overrated, my suggestion is book elsewhere. the building and rooms are old with old amenities. The toilet smells when you flush. I could stay there only for a night. The photos never represent its reality. I was so frustrated with my experience and this place never matches what you think of Japan.

I spent 5 nights at Hotel Anteroom as a solo traveler. I had a single room which was perfect for what I needed. The price was about $350 US for the 5 nights. …

One of our favourite hotels so far in Japan! Modern and has good amenities like free bath salts, a stacked breakfast and a bar to lounge in. Front desk were amazing, especially the girl with a bob haircut, she helped us send our luggage on to Haneda and checked us in with a smile. Only downside is TV was old but we didn’t even really use it as Kyoto has so much to see and do and it’s slightly out of the centre but it’s near the big temples.

Out of our 2 week stay in Japan, Hotel Anteroom was by far our favourite hotel.Super stylish & artsy. The room I picked had a beautiful wooden tub overlooking the outside zen garden from a window in the bathroom and I was in the tub almost every night. The bed was huge and luxurious. Whenever we didn’t want our room turned over for the day, they left bags of fresh towel, bottles of water, etc at our door for us, which was nice.Great location, only a few minute walk from Kujo Station which was only 1 stop away from Kyoto Station.Thank you!

South of Kyoto station. No far. Friendly staff. Comfortable rooms. Always something happening in the lobby. Quirky art. Well stocked bar. Best breakfasts. No rice or noodles. Stayed 4 nights. Used bike to explore Kyoto.
