Anyway, the room smells musty. The air from the air conditioner also has a musty smell. I couldn't sleep well.

I used it by myself. You can get there in 15 minutes on foot from the station. It takes about 5 minutes by bus.The entrance felt a little tired. Each person has a different way of sensing the smell in a room, soI can't say for certain, butI wasn't even concerned about it.The room and bathroom are more than spacious enough.Mitarai was a new washlet. There was a service of bath salts in the bath, which was nice.

The hotel clearly looks like a reused old love hotel.I forget what floor it was, but it was probably around the 4th floor. The room is directly in front of the elevator. As soon as I entered, there was a terrible smell like naphthalene. Even though I used the air purifier at the entrance to remove the smell, I couldn't get rid of the smell in the room, and when I tried to open the window, I couldn't open it fully due to poor construction. The carpet and striped sofa are full of stains. The bathroom had some chips in the tiles, and it smelled like mold and didn't feel clean. There was no sign that even the slippers, which were placed right after entering, had been disinfected.I spent the night enduring the smell of the room.Looking at other people's reviews, there seems to be quite a difference depending on the room.I didn't get a room on a particularly cheap plan, so I would like to ask for an explanation as to what the difference is.

Went on a road trip with 3 friends in Hokkaido. My friend who is the lead in the travel plan, concerned about cost more than quality in planning. After 2 trips with him, I began checking the hotels he booked before we start our journey. If I noticed a hotel is badly reviewed, I would ask him for alternatives,I never tried Areaone hotels in the past. When I googled the room pictures, it looked okay to me. But I was fooled. The pictures appeared much much better than real life.1. When we waited for my friend to check in, I found the hotel lobby is a bit weird (then I understand from reading the reviews, it was probably because it’s converted from a former love hotel.)2. My room is #807. Single room. I inserted the key and tried to open the door. I failed until at least 4 or 5 trials. Anyway, it’s bad sign.3. The moment I entered, I feel uncomfortable as I confronted a small dark foyer, then a small door that I need to open in order to get in further. Don’t know why, I really felt spooky. I proceeded slowly. It’s a big room with old furniture. the room layout is weird. The white bed sheet and pillows looked clean but it didn’t attractive me to lay my tired body on it. The “sofa” looks like a make-shift sofa bed.4. Then I turned right to look into presumbly the toilet and bathroom area. I wasn’t quite sure as a curtain (not a nice looking one) hanged down at the entrance…never seen this in a hotel room. I went in cautiously to switch on the light and look around the whole area. It is like 20 years old place and had never been renovated. I didnt feel it’s clean. The skirt of the toilet was lined with stains and dust perhaps.5. I feel it really uncomfortable to stay in this room. So I went to the lobby to ask the lady if she could change another room for me. She handed me the key on the counter, obviously left by a customer just checked out. Room number 707. What a conincidence! I said “I don’t want No. 7. I don’t like the room.” She turned her head to her male colleague and repeated “Don’t like”. Maybe she felt offensive by what I said. Then her attitude changed. Her face became cold and unfriendly. “ No other room available”. I of course know there was no point to discuss further.6. I thought this must be a very cheap hotel (in terms of price) that my friend tends to choose. I told myself, it’s cheap so I had to be considerate and tolerant. It’s at check out, I realised the bill for my single without meals or breakfast is ¥8,550 for one night. Then it’s definitely not worth the money.7. Anyway, the room made me really feel spooky and unwelcome (somehow this is the second time I experienced this horrible sense. The first time it happened to me was in Cuba in 2016, after 40 years of travel.) my decision is the same: I will not stay in this room.8. Finally I went to check my friend’s room opposite mine. It’s much different. Square layout and looks like a normal hotel room (although it still looks “low cost” and aged, toilet skirt still stained and dust. My dear friend offered me the bed. She slept on the sofa bed ( with the beddings we moved in from my original room.)9. My friend stayed with his wife in a corner room. In entering, the room smelt so bad and awful that his wife almost vomited. After room spraying and opening the balcony door for one hour, they said it’s better, he didn’t care because it cost them ¥9,550 for 2 persons. Benefitted from an exchange rate of USD1=JYE157, he’s “happy”.10. So the morale is, when you choose hotel, what do you concern most? I concern about affordability, and at the same time, i care about cleanliness, comfort and feelings. if they are not met, of course I won’t choose it. I would definitely not choose AreaOne Hotels again.

The sofa is comfortable. The bath and toilet are in separate rooms, so you don't need a curtain to take a shower and it's comfortable. The buffet breakfast was also delicious. It's a short walk to the convenience store. There are cranberries nearby.
